Nature of Work

The Division of GI, Tumor and Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, has two openings for a full-time faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).  Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH).

 The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for our Trauma and Acute Care Surgery service (TACS).  These duties will include:

    Inpatient responsibilities such as rounding, writing orders, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management, and discharge activities Outpatient responsibilities will include clinic care, triage of phone calls, emails or faxes, post-op care, follow-up on home care requests, management of referrals and follow-up on diagnostic lab and radiology testsClose collaboration with general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists and hospital staff will be necessary.  Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel and primary care providers is essential. Provide care to patients in the inpatient wards, in the intensive care unit, acute care areas, and in the outpatient clinics.
This position is rotating shifts with days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range has been established at: $98,717 - $134,906. .

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Must meet minimum qualifications at time of hire.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Masters degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Colorado license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges. 
  • Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).  
Preferred Qualifications:  

Two years’ experience in general surgery, trauma surgery, or critical care setting preferred.
