JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Competitive Sport, the Coordinator for Competitive Sports is responsible for the daily administrative, operational and programmatic support of the Competitive Sports Unit. The position implements a wide variety of day-to-day responsibilities designed to ensure operational performance and provide quality service to members of the Student Recreation Center and associated competitive teams. Weekend and evening work is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Management

  1. Serves as a primary advisor to assigned Club Sport teams. Provides leadership and guidance to student officers specific to team management, annual budget development, and compliance matters.
  2. Provides oversite and leadership as the site manager for the league, tournament competitions, and camps.
  3. Serves as a resource on matters relating to program activities, administrative policies, and procedures.
  4. Ensures program compliance specific to safety and risk management, and departmental policy for all competitive sports programming.
  5. Provide logistical support for programmatic units with the delivery of member services.
  6. Coordinate competition site and equipment maintenance with internal and external constituents.
  7. Maintain timely and accurate risk management and maintenance reporting.
  8. Maintain accurate inventory of all programmatic equipment and operational resources.
  9. Provide direct support for events hosted by UConn Recreation.
  10. Assist with planning, development, promotion, and execution of a comprehensive ongoing schedule of competitive sports programming.
  11. Develop and expand professional knowledge of competitive sports programming to ensure quality and provide a wide range of activities that meet the needs of students.
  12. Drive department vehicles in support of satellite operations including competition site supervision, facility and field maintenance, and scheduled special events.

Personnel Management

  • Provide supervisory support and maintain high-quality performance standards for Competitive Sports student personnel.
  • Implement ongoing student employee training and development programs.
  • Evaluate student employee performance, providing written evaluations on an annual basis.
  • Maintain employee scheduling, monitor for accuracy, and provide payroll verification.
  • Collaborate with Recreation Human Resources during Centralized Student Employee recruitment, hiring, recognition, discipline, and retention processes.
  • Planning & Assessment

  • Provide timely and accurate reporting of Competitive Sports participant usage and financial data.
  • Review and recommend operational and programmatic changes based on continuing need assessment.
  • Assist in the development of the annual end of year report.
  • Recommend annual program, equipment, facility, maintenance, policy, and budgetary needs.
  • Additional Duties

  • Instruct CPR/First Aid/AED classes.
  • Serve on department or University advisory groups and committees.
  • Additional duties as requested by supervisor or departmental leadership.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Bachelor’s degree.
    2. Two (2) to three (3) years of related experience.
    3. Demonstrated understanding of, stated commitment to, and/or experience working with diverse populations.
    4. Current Adult CPR/AED Certification or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire.
    5. Valid driver’s license and ability to acquire Connecticut Passenger “A” endorsement or equivalent.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Documented professional experience in competitive sports management.
  • Direct experience working with camp counseling, facility management, event management, or customer service.
  • One (1) or more officiating certifications related to applicable competitive sports.
  • Proficient with software applications related to department operations (e.g., Fusion, Connect2Concepts, SubItUp).
  • First-Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating employee development and training.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills necessary to independently manage projects.

    This is a full-time, permanent, 12-month position, including nights and weekends with a full range of state health and retirement benefits.
