Overview

Supports the mission of Alumni Engagement by building regional and global networks for alumni that deepen their connection with the Macalester community and the college which is a critical engagement and fundraising strategy. Initiates relationships that inspire leadership in targeted regions worldwide and volunteer manages those leaders so that they are empowered to develop and implement engagement plans for alumni in their area. Creates strategy, project manages, and builds outcome reports for regional engagement plans and signature regional events such as Mac In Your City, regional events, service days, alumni town halls, etc. Develops ownership building follow up strategies with alumni. Serves as point person for the 25th Reunion -- defining the strategy, forming the leadership and committees, implementing the programming, and conducting the follow up so that the 25th class has deeper ownership in the college for their future years.  Supports the Alumni Board's work. Partners closely with other areas of Advancement and across the campus. 

About Alumni Engagement:

The Macalester community extends far beyond the student experience. Once a student, alumni are connected with a support system for life. Alumni Engagement seeks to reach, serve, and engage alumni; to foster a lifelong intellectual and emotional connection between Macalester College and the alumni community.

Responsibilities
  • Global/Regional Signature events: Oversees the signature event strategy and implementation plans for regions, including Mac In Your City. Defines which events bring the most value and the right cadence of events and which events bring the most value. Partners with AE lifelong learning strategist to develop and promote virtual events, in-person events with the president, day of service type events, etc. The events will serve as a hub for other engagement and fundraising work across Advancement and the campus.
  • Global/Regional Community: Activates leadership in regional and global communities. Leads the Regional Engagement Committee, project manages work plans and empowers volunteers to take action on those work plans. Initiates strategies based on data and where alumni are concentrated so that we ensure activity in all needed areas. Builds a follow up call-to-action strategy for alumni that participate in activities. Provides information and seeks collaborations with campus partners for regional and global alumni engagement events as appropriate. Partners closely with other Alumni Engagement team members, Development, Macalester Fund, Communications and other campus partners to develop an integrated strategy that helps all partners achieve their goals. 
  • Data and Reporting: Prepares, analyzes, and evaluates regional alumni data as it relates to events and geographic based engagement. With collaboration by the Director of Alumni Engagement, establishes baseline metrics to determine growth that directs regional strategies and programming. 
  • Reunion: Leverages the excitement of celebrating the 25th reunion milestone to help build greater ownership in the college moving forward and evolve the 25th reunion strategy to include more volunteers, increased promotions, and tailored programming with an end outcome of increased fundraising goals. Partners closely with the Macalester Fund. Additional Reunion responsibilities will be assigned in conjunction with the larger planning process.
  • Alumni Board: Supports the work of the Alumni Board and provides information to assist the Alumni Board in amplifying the larger alumni engagement strategy.
  • Engages in and promotes Macalester’s culture of diversity and inclusion, encompassing individuals of any heritage, identity, status, or orientation.
Qualifications

 

  • 3-5 years of strategic experience including contact with external constituencies in a busy office, previous experience in higher education, development and/or marketing. Demonstrated skills in innovative problem solving, taking initiatives to drive action, and volunteer management. 
  • High demonstration of volunteer management and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail, deadlines, project follow-though, budget management.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in Word, PPT, spreadsheets; must have good follow up with emails and system for organizing all of the moving parts of the work.
  • Position requires the ability to produce finished documents of all kinds. There is no clerical support for this position.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Must be able to be an enthusiastic advocate for Macalester and for our mission, willing to work evenings and weekends and travel, with excellent interpersonal communications skills to deal diplomatically and pragmatically with internal and external constituencies including alumni, faculty, staff, students, vendors, friends of the college, and top leaders.

Physical Requirements: 

  • This position requires the ability to climb stairs. Building not equipped with elevator or lift. 
  • Some travel will be part of this position
  • Must have the ability to lift to 25lbs and use one’s peripheral vision on an occasional basis.

 

Compensation & Benefits:

The total compensation for this full-time position offers an annual salary of $53,000-$60,000 and includes access to Macalester’s Benefits.
