The Contracts Specialist is a key member of the Sourcing and Procurement team at Boston University and works directly for the Executive Director of Sourcing Strategy & Analytics. This position will coordinate closely with all members of the Sourcing and Procurement team, Campus Planning and Operations (CPO), and the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) and is responsible for administering the overall contract management process, including facilitating, developing, reviewing, negotiating, and tracking of assigned contractual arrangements. This role will have primary responsibility for supporting construction and design related contracts for all annual capital and major construction projects.

Major duties of this position include:

  • Collaborates and partners with OGC to manage the contracting process at Boston University including, but not limited to, AIA (The American Institute of Architects) contract templates, Master Agreements, Consulting Agreements, and Service Orders.
  • Manages the University's AIA licensing, templates, and access.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Risk Management to assess insurance requirements in assigned contracts.
  • Explores new options for contract templates, including but not limited to, owner organizations such as BOMA and IFMA, as well as A105s and B105s.
  • Trains and develops internal Sourcing and Procurement staff and Project Managers on contracting best practices and University's policy and procedures pertaining to the contracting process.

Required Skills

  • B.A./B.S. in business, finance, accounting, management, nonprofit administration, or public administration.
  • 5-8 years of experience with demonstrated proficiency in a Procurement and Contracting function with exposure to Planning, Design, and Construction contracts.
  • Proficiency in negotiating complex legal and business terms.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Advanced organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage concurrent projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, good judgment, and integrity as evidenced through strong background reference checks.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced professional degree (J.D.) and contracts management experience within the construction industry.
  • Experience working in a Sourcing & Procurement function with exposure to a relevant eProcurement system, such as SAP Ariba. Experience with other E-procurement software/resources will be considered.
  • Proficiency with AIA software and management of licenses in a relevant industry such as higher education or other not-for-profit environments.
  • Detail oriented, with a track record of accuracy and quality work output.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, intellectually curious.
