Nature of Work

The Cancer Center is looking to hire a full-time Veterinary Technician II to join the Animal Imaging Shared Resource team (AISR) to assist with the day-to-day operations in animal handling and imaging of rodents using a Bruker 9.4 Tesla MRI scanner, PerkinElmer Quantum GX2 microCT, Siemens microCT, Siemens microPET, PerkinElmer IVIS Spectrum optical scanner, PerkinElmer IVIS SpectrumCT optical scanner and PerkinElmer IVIS200 optical scanner. The Veterinarian Technician will perform animal handling during image acquisition to include injections, administering anesthesia and performing sample collection for small laboratory animals (mostly mice and rats) which are enrolled in imaging studies. The Veterinary Technician will also be cross-trained in NMR Metabolomics and wet lab duties.

Examples of Work Performed

    Accommodate all AISR Users:in scheduling imaging services through the iLabin performing imaging acquisitions according to the established SOPsin performing animal anesthesia and animal handling during imaging studies according to the established protocolsin performing routine quality control and services to our imaging scanners with individualized training sessions for our users on our optical scannerswith data transfer and data archiving
Updating all SOPs for animal imaging Communicate with research personnel regarding technical issues or animal health issues during image acquisitionWork closely with all AISR team members as well as the Radiology, RadOnc and Veterinarian OLAR teamTrain and advise all AISR users on animal handling and animal protocols for their studiesTrain new investigators on accessing iLab and scheduling their studiesAssist with scheduling and acquisition of all AISR studies Assist with billing through iLabKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum Requirements

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology/ Laboratory Animal TechnologyTwo (2) years’ experience in an animal facility working in a technical capacity with animalsA combination of work experience and education assisting in animal surgery, administering anesthesia to animals and/or performing veterinary surgery, which provided the same type, amount, and level of knowledge acquired in the required education may substitute for the associate’s degree.
Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

    1 year experience in a research animal facility working in a technical capacity with animalsExperience with animal imaging (Xray, CT, ultrasound, optical, MRI)

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $42,607-47,540.16 and is commensurate with skills and experience.    

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
