- Effective written and oral communication skillsAbility to enter data in a database and manage an email accountAbility to handle rodentsAbility to perform anesthesia on animalsAbility to perform tail vein injectionsKnowledge of an animal research facilityAbility to maintain an activity log and iLab recordsAbility to work with complex machineryPlanning and organization skillsAbility to teach and lead others by exampleAbility to work with multiple investigators and teams
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology/ Laboratory Animal TechnologyTwo (2) years’ experience in an animal facility working in a technical capacity with animalsA combination of work experience and education assisting in animal surgery, administering anesthesia to animals and/or performing veterinary surgery, which provided the same type, amount, and level of knowledge acquired in the required education may substitute for the associate’s degree.
- 1 year experience in a research animal facility working in a technical capacity with animalsExperience with animal imaging (Xray, CT, ultrasound, optical, MRI)
- Must be willing and able to enter high magnetic field (no pace makers, no implants, no ferromagnetic body piercing, no infusion pumps) – please refer to MRI safety guidelinesMust be willing and able to euthanize rodentsMust be willing able to work around noise and vibrationsMust be willing and able to work around radioactive materialsMust be willing and able to obtain and maintain a radiation safety trainingMust possess and maintain a current State of Colorado Driver’s LicenseMust be willing and able to wear appropriate respiratory protection
