The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks well-qualified applicants for an Open Rank (Assistant, Associate or Professor) Academic General Faculty (non-tenure track) position in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). A significant part of the responsibilities will involve teaching a variety of Electrical and Computer Engineering courses that combine hands-on experimentation with conceptual learning. Topics of interest include elementary electronics, circuits, signals and systems, digital logic design, computer architecture, computer networks, VLSI, and embedded system design. Relevant academic or industrial design experience will be a plus. The primary responsibilities include teaching, student advising, educational innovation, curriculum development, and service to the department. Academic General Faculty are also expected to contribute to scholarship through research in any of the ECE areas, including research in engineering education. The appointment rank will be commensurate with experience.
A Ph.D. degree in a relevant field or a Master’s degree with significant teaching experience is required. A commitment to teaching excellence is essential, as is evidence of an explicit commitment to diversity and advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups. The preferred candidate has a broad background in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and an interest in innovative undergraduate teaching and mentoring, laboratory instruction, and capstone engineering project design and supervision.
