Job Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regular/contract instructors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advance of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, large lectures and small seminars, and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the “open door” concept serving a diverse student population. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Master's in fine arts*, art, or art history OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in humanities OR the equivalent.

(NOTE: “Master's in fine arts” as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the “Master of Fine Arts” (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other nonplastic arts.)

Sensitivity to, understanding of, and ability to motivate students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, differing abilities, gender, and ethnic backgrounds.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS - Applicants must demonstrate:
  • Academic preparation for and successful experience teaching art at the secondary, community college, or university level, including two and three-dimensional design, drawing, figure drawing, and painting, and using a variety of techniques and approaches.
  • Practicing professional artist with a recent exhibition record in a notable venue.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach an established curriculum, and to work in concert with other faculty to maintain an integrated program.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and develop online curriculum, and teach in hybrid and online modalities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for a diverse student population, including those from historically underrepresented socioeconomic, cultural, educational, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge about and experience in student-centered, equity-minded, multi-modal, and culturally responsive teaching and learning techniques that are responsive to the needs of a diverse student population, including those who are first-generation, English learning, and varying in age and physical ability.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS - Applicants will also be evaluated for qualifications in the following:
  • Experience in planning workshops and visiting artist lectures for art classes, an art department, and/or gallery.
  • Demonstrated involvement with community outreach programs.
  • Ability to contribute to the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the college.
