The University of Virginia Health Development Office seeks a collaborative, success-oriented, and enthusiastic individual to join the School of Nursing Alumni and Development Team as either an Associate Director or Senior Associate Director of Development. This position will join a highly successful and collaborative team focused on the success of School of Nursing’s component of the University’s Honor the Future Campaign.

Responsibilities will include identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors as part of School of Nursing, UVA Health, and University communities, with an emphasis on alumni discovery and cultivation work that builds the major gift pipeline. Responsibilities include seeking gifts of $100,000 and above to advance the strategic priorities of School of Nursing and UVA Health, including research, faculty support, and student support/scholarships. The incumbent will work with the over 12,000 living UVA Nursing alumni across Virginia, the nation, and the world. They will additionally partner with Nursing and UVA Health leadership in developing compelling proposals and requests aligned with the priorities of the School and UVA Health. In partnership with development colleagues across Grounds, they will work with alumni, parents, and friends across the University with an interest in Nursing. The incumbent will report to the Executive Director of Development for the School of Nursing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least three years of experience in fundraising or related work is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships of trust and respect with a diverse range of constituents, including donors and prospects, alumni, parents, faculty, administrators, and development colleagues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to relate to individuals
  • Highest ethical standards and attention to confidentiality when dealing with alumni, parent, and donor information
  • Thoughtful approach and sound judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to employ entrepreneurial approaches to meet deadlines and consistently achieve/exceed goals
  • High level of initiative and ownership with a strong orientation to teamwork
  • Strong commitment to shared accountability
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to work effectively and thrive in a complex environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to use a database to maintain and review records and reports such as donor data, prospect contacts, solicitations, and proposals
  • Possess a command of cultural sensitivity and value and embrace cultural, political, and social differences. The incumbent will contribute to an environment that encourages diversity, equity, and inclusion in the School of Nursing and UVA Health.
  • Ability to travel is required, as well as occasional evening and weekend work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Robust understanding of principles of philanthropy, higher education, alumni relations, and relationship management
  • Success within collaborative fundraising models
  • Consistent record of soliciting and closing gifts of $100,000+
  • Previous work in or familiarity with an academic medical center and an academic/alumni fundraising environment

This job will be filled at either the Associate or Senior Associate level, depending on the successful candidate's experience, knowledge, and competencies. The ideal candidate at the Associate level will have experience managing high-level relationships, the ability to use a database to maintain and review records and reports such as donor data, prospect contacts, solicitations and proposals, and the ability to solicit and close gifts of $100,000. The ideal candidate at the Senior Associate level will have a consistent record of soliciting and closing gifts of $100,000+, and proven experience of managing and developing successful fundraising strategies for specific programs.

This position will remain open until filled. This is an Exempt level, benefited position. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
