Job Description Summary:

The full-time (9-month) ranked faculty member in the School of Physical Therapy is expected to adhere to the Husson University Faculty Handbook policies for promotion and multiple-year contract review. The PT faculty member will teach assigned courses specific to his/her area of expertise plus those required by the curriculum. In addition, faculty members are expected to fulfill limited responsibilities in advising, scholarship and community service. Participation in evaluative processes and School and College of Health and Pharmacy is required and an expectation of all faculty. Annual individualized goals and objectives for an annual Professional Development and Scholarship Plan will be reviewed with the Chair and/or Dean as part of the annual performance reviews and the promotion/multiple year contract process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

A faculty member’s responsibilities are detailed in the Faculty Handbook with a primary focus on:

Teaching:
All PT faculty carry a course load of 18 credits annually with primary responsibility for approximately four courses and participate in courses shared by all faculty: Professional Development I-III; and Patient Care Seminar. Faculty participate in Clinical Education I, II, III mid-affiliation student evaluations. Teaching excellence is expected and evidenced by attention to instructional design, teaching pedagogies, and performance evaluations. Teaching and student outcomes should be consistent with norms and expectations set by the arena of professional expertise and CAPTE criteria.

Scholarship and Professional Activity:
All PT faculty are expected to maintain currency within their professional area of expertise and to participate in scholarly activities as defined by the Faculty Handbook. Each faculty member is responsible for developing and executing a scholarship plan that contributes to the scientific or professional body of knowledge relevant to the faculty member’s area of expertise.

Service:
PT faculty members are expected to actively participate in School and College meetings, retreats, committees, and activities (open house, PT class meetings, and/or student recruitment projects) as well as serve on at least one Faculty Forum or Institutional committee.

Student Advising:
PT faculty maintain student office hours and advise approximately twenty-five PT students each year following the policies and procedures documented in the Husson Faculty Advising Manual.

Education and Experience:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Office), skills with specialized educational software preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Organizational skills to enhance responsiveness to regional and specialized accreditation and program demands/deadlines.
  • Administrative skills, including word processing, scheduling, event planning, and data entry/monitoring.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Education:
Eligibility for licensure as a PT in MaineEarned academic doctorate (PhD. EdD, DSc) or board-certified clinical specialty certifications preferred

Experience:
Minimum of three years of clinical experience OR
Minimum of three years of documented college/university-level teaching required
Demonstrated area of clinical, academic, and/or scholarship expertise required

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:
Effective teaching, organizational and communication skills, and instructional technology skills are required.
Experience with distance education and web-based education desirable.
