A.T. Still University's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) invites applications for an Assistant Dean for Student Achievement on the Mesa, Arizona campus. The purpose and function of the role of Assistant Dean for Student Achievement is to provide academic and professional development support for students through the four years of medical school. Additionally, the role includes guiding the faculty advisement program and peer advisement as well working with the Alumni association.

Major job duties:
  • Oversee and provide guidance with regard to, residency specialty selection; provide resources to assist with professional development and residency preparation/assessing student competitiveness for residency, and oversight with the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) process and residency matches/Supplement Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP)
  • Oversee the faculty advisement program – assigning advisors, providing faculty development to advisors, coordinating appropriate advising forms with the support of the Student Achievement Success Coordinator
  • Working with ATSU Student Affairs to ensure adequate student support
  • Oversee the student to student peer advisement process
  • Collaborating with ATSU Alumni Services to provide alumni mentorship and alumni involvement
  • Attending relevant ATSU-SOMA and national meetings to ensure optimal student support
  • Provide and update resources continually to assist students through medical school and into residency
Skills/Requirements:
  • Ph.D., DO, or MD.
  • Background in medicine with an understanding of the medical education process, medical specialties, SOMA’s unique curriculum, and the changing landscape of GME.
  • 1-2 years experience with:
    • Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
    • National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)
    • Military Match
    • Supplement Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP)
    • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
    • medical education (e.g., requirements, curriculum, student expectations, professionalism guidance)
    • professional development for medical students
    • specialty and residency planning
  • Knowledge of:
    • medical education – ability to assist with student learning strategies, struggling students, optimizing individual student success
    • medical licensure examination and academic resources for medical students
    • medical specialties and the ability to assess student competitiveness for various medical specialty residency programs
    • Must be able to work well with others (students, other faculty – Mesa/Regional Directors of Medical Education (RDME), administration, Student Affairs, Admissions)
