Position:

The Computing and Data Analytics (CDA) Department at Trinity Christian College is searching for colleagues with interdisciplinary interests in the field of computing for multiple open rank full-time tenure-track faculty positions. The start date is negotiable, with a preference for August 2022.

The Computing and Data Analytics (CDA) Department offers degrees in computing, data analytics and computer science. It is also heavily involved in Trinity's digital design and graphic design majors. seeks faculty candidates committed to the integration of their disciplines within the broad context of all education. We especially welcome applicants with expertise in data analytics, digital humanities, or mobile or media development to support these efforts or grow the program in new directions. The CDA Department at Trinity views computing as a liberal arts discipline and is committed to providing inclusive classroom experiences and collaborating with other disciplines and programs including Nursing, Professional Writing, Art, Music, Environmental Studies, History, Communication Arts, Business, and other social and natural sciences. Experience teaching introductory or non-major courses with a significant computing or technology component is desired. The position can includes opportunities to teach the history of technology; introductory programming, database, or web development; upper-level courses in your area of specialty; as well as to supervise undergraduate research. Opportunities are also available to design and teach pioneering interdisciplinary courses, including Thinking and Writing with Code and Interdisciplinary Inquiry such as Inspiring Change through Data-Driven Goals. Such courses go beyond preparing traditional computer science majors to support the CDA’s mission of providing all students at Trinity with the computing or data skills necessary to better pursue any disciplinary or vocational goal.

Qualifications:

A Ph.D. or terminal degree is preferred, and a Master’s degree is required. Experience in college-level teaching and scholarship is desired, but not required. All applicants with computing or data science experience will be considered. Preference will be given to those without traditional computer science PhDs; applicants with a computer science or related Ph.D. should address their interdisciplinary work in their materials.

Trinity seeks faculty candidates who are professing Christians and are committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Successful candidates will possess the ability to articulate the relationship between their academic discipline, the vocational preparation of their students, and a vision for human flourishing that emerges from the Christian faith. Successful candidates are also dedicated to personal involvement with students outside of the classroom through advising, social interaction, and informal academic and cultural settings, as well as with professionals who can complement the Trinity experience. Trinity particularly welcomes applications from candidates who have professional or personal narratives that reflect diverse perspectives, as well as those who have engaged with issues relevant to preparing students to work and live with intercultural competence and compassion.

Responsibilities:

This is a 9-month tenure-track faculty role. Primary responsibilities include teaching computing, computer science, or data analytics related courses that serve the department and college needs and align with the area of expertise of the successful candidate. All faculty participate at Trinity in faculty governance and in student advising and are expected to pursue a healthy scholarly and research agenda. In their first year, new faculty participate in a year-long formation program that begins with a three-day institute in August.

About the Department:

The Computing and Data Analytics Department offers majors and minors in Computing, Computer Science, and Data Analytics. All students complete a field education experience as a required graduation component with computer science and data analytics students completing a year-long consultancy project. Faculty in the department have research interests in network science, data science education, and technology in teaching. Timeline:
