Position Description :

The Department of Political Science invites applications for an open rank, faculty of practice position in Public Administration. This position will be a nontenure line, nine-month faculty position having a contract term not to exceed five years, subject to annual reappointment review, and renewable upon expiration of the initial term. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Teach undergraduate and graduate classes in three instructional modalities – in-person, fully-distant, and hybrid, across the program curricula in public administration.
  2. Provide external relations connecting students with the practitioner community and alumni through interface with professional organizations and individuals on and off campus, public and nonprofit entities.
  3. Recruit, advise, and mentor students; develop internship and job placement opportunities; and plan, deliver, and assess curriculum for undergraduate and graduate programs in public administration.

Required Qualifications:

Required qualifications for Assistant Professor of Practice Rank:

  1. Earned Ph.D. degree in public administration, public policy, political science, or related field from an accredited university is required at the time of appointment.
  2. A minimum of 5 years beyond entry level professional experience in the public or nonprofit sectors leading and managing programs.
  3. A minimum of two years higher education university teaching experience including experience in at least three of the following areas: public administration, public policy, public finance, policy process, state and local government, or public personnel and human resource administration.
  4. Record of professional publications, presentations, or similar contributions.
  5. Demonstrated record of leadership in relevant professional organizations.
Required qualifications for Associate Professor of Practice Rank:
  1. Earned Ph.D. degree in public administration, public policy, political science, or related field from an accredited university is required at the time of appointment.
  2. A minimum of 10 years beyond entry level professional experience in the public or nonprofit sectors leading and managing programs.
  3. A minimum of two years higher education university teaching experience including experience in at least three of the following areas: public administration, public policy, public finance, policy process, state and local government, or public personnel and human resource administration.
  4. Record of professional publications, presentations, or similar contributions.
  5. Demonstrated record of leadership in relevant professional organizations.
Required qualifications for Professor of Practice Rank:
  1. Earned Ph.D. degree in public administration, public policy, political science, or related field from an accredited university is required at the time of appointment.
  2. A minimum of 15 years beyond entry level professional experience in the public or nonprofit sectors leading and managing programs of which at least five are in a leadership role.
  3. A minimum of two years higher education university teaching experience including experience in at least three of the following areas: public administration, public policy, public finance, policy process, state and local government, or public personnel and human resource administration.
  4. Record of professional publications, presentations, or similar contributions.
  5. Demonstrated record of leadership in relevant professional organizations.
  6. Recognition by peers for professional contributions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Relevant experience consulting, planning, delivering, and assessing curriculum for public administration in higher education.
  2. Experience in assessing student learning outcomes for program assessment and accreditation.
  3. Experience teaching in-person, fully-distant and hybrid courses in public administration, public policy, or public finance.
  4. Proficiency in spreadsheets, data analysis, report writing, Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas), and video conferencing (e.g., Zoom), Program Inventory Management and Course Inventory Management Systems.
  5. Effective communication and interpersonal skills within a diverse environment.
  6. 18 or more graduate credits in political science.
