Position description
The Department of Earth and Planetary Science at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) is seeking a postdoctoral candidate to measure stable carbon isotope effects of the enzyme Rubisco from a variety of different sources under different conditions including temperature and metallation state. The postdoctoral fellow will work with Prof. Daniel Stolper (Earth and Planetary Science) and Prof. Patrick Shih (Plant and Microbial Biology) at UC Berkeley and collaborate with Prof. Woodward Fischer at Caltech. The goal is characterize the carbon isotope effects of Rubisco in order to better understand the meaning of the carbon isotopic composition of organic matter in the present, geologic past, and as a biosignature in general.

The successful candidate will design and conduct experiments using Rubisco. They will make measurements of the concentration and isotopic composition of CO2 in samples via mass spectrometry. They will draft results as manuscripts and present work at conferences.
