Position Summary
Facilities Services is two Maintenance Technicians to contribute to and perform maintenance and repair of the university's physical environment. The Maintenance Technician excels at thinking through and being thorough in performing assigned tasks. He/she performs and acts professionally at all times and is a team player who willingly contributes his/her labor, skill, and knowledge to achieve shared goals.


Responsibilities
  • Team player who works well with others and is willing to contribute to the shared goals of the Maintenance team, the Facilities Services department, and the university. Willing to learn from supervisors and coworkers as appropriate in performing tasks more effectively and efficiently. Willing to share knowledge and experience with coworkers to contribute to shared goals.
  • Communicates in oral and written form with coworkers, campus constituents, students, and the public in an effective and professional manner.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair in all aspects of building maintenance including:
  • Possesses and effectively utilizes basic knowledge and skills to perform work in a variety of skill areas including: electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, flooring, and HVAC
  • Competently and safely uses a variety of hand and power tools, as well as shop equipment. Competently and safely performs tasks on building roofs and other exterior areas using and scaling extension and step ladders
  • Competently and safely operates motorized vehicles including vans, trucks, and tractors as needed
  • Possesses and effectively utilizes basic knowledge of maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles including gasoline, diesel, and gas/oil mix engines to ensure proper and safe operation and maximize their useful life.
  • Serves as an essential worker, which may include working safely in a variety of climatic conditions and emergency situations outside of normal working hours.

  • Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to think clearly through processes, solve practical problems, and understand and deal with a variety of variables.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and provide directions in oral and written English and diagram form.
  • Continuously demonstrate professional conduct including: coopertive and positive attitude, sound judgment, appropriate communication, and willingness to contribute to shared goals
  • Current driver's license and satisfactory driving record required and must be maintained
  • Must have 2-3 years experience using hand and power tools and experience with shop equipment.
  • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical environments and conditions
  • Must consent to pre-employment background check
