Job Description:

The 1Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC, https://1floridaadrc.org) and Laboratory for Rehabilitation Neuroscience (lrnlab.org) at the University of Florida seeks a candidate for an NIH funded postdoctoral position focused on dementia-related biomarkers, neuroimaging, and cognition. The position will be supported by a rich academic environment that is focused on dementia and atypical dementia. The 1Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center is focused on imaging and biomarkers in a unique cohort of Hispanic and non-Hispanic participants. The candidate would have opportunities for growth in the AD field, including participating in future grant submissions and future mentored training grant awards such as K-award mechanisms.

The academic environment in the 1Florida ADRC includes Dr. Todd Golde as PI, and other neuropsychologists (Glenn Smith, David Loewenstein) and neurologists (Melissa Armstrong, Ranjan Duara) and imaging specialists (Vaillancourt, Coombes, Adjouadi). The position would be supported by the Biomarker Core of the 1Florida ADRC, and the individual would serve as the interface between the other cores including the Clinical Core, Data Core, and Outreach Core. There is training within the ADRC that can support future career growth and opportunities in the AD field. The position would also provide an interface between imaging centers at University of Florida, University of Miami, and Mt. Sinai Medical Center.

LABORATORY ENVIRONMENT:

The position would work within the laboratory directed by Drs. Stephen Coombes and David Vaillancourt. The laboratory is supported by the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation and is the lead for the 1Florida ADRC Biomarker Core. There is 3000 square foot of space within the laboratory supporting two EEG labs, electromyography and motor physiological assays, and over 10 Linux based systems for image processing. In addition, there is office space dedicated to the personnel working with the group and space dedicated for computing and printing, software and hardware development, and scientific meetings amongst collaborators. The laboratory is less than 1 mile from the AMRIS facility which is located in the McKnight Brain Institute where the 3T, 4.7T, and 11.T research dedicated magnets are housed.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience and consistent with NIH guidelines

Minimum Requirements:

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in psychology, neuropsychology, neuroscience, engineering, physiology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using Freesurfer, AFNI, FSL, or SPM for data analyses
• Strong working knowledge of signal processing
• Significant programming expertise (e.g., Matlab, Bash, Python)
• Meeting project deadlines and working in a team environment
