Job Summary
Working closely with the Buyer 3, the Buyer 2 will establish and maintain ongoing relationships with suppliers and work with them to resolve any performance issues. Using the university’s established purchasing and accounting systems, the Buyer 2 drafts and executes purchase orders (POs) and requests for quotes (RFQs) for highly specialized components used in the fabrication of custom orthotic and prosthetic devices, external technical fabrication services, and medical supplies (e.g., Off-The-Shelf orthopedic devices) dispensed by the department without alteration. The Buyer 2 also maintains and orders all general supplies needed for the ongoing operation of the unit and performs other duties as assigned.

S/he works as a team member with other practice staff and consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor.  The specialist is required to comply with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards. Exemplary customer service is essential, and s/he must treat all patient encounters and information with discretion and confidentiality per HIPAA.

Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree and one year experience or equivalent combination of experience/training
  • Previous experience working in a purchasing position
  • Intermediate level keyboard and computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office     
  • Strong working knowledge of purchasing tasks and terminology
  • Pleasant, calm, friendly demeanor. Flexible, good interpersonal skills, proven ability to keep a professional manner even under pressure
  • Excellent time management skills            
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in teams; be self-directed and have the ability to follow through on specific assignments with accuracy and minimal direction                             
  • Strong verbal communication skills.  Proven ability to communicate effectively over the telephone with vendors, peers, and clinicians
  • Demonstrates courtesy and overt helpfulness in all interactions                 
  • Proven ability to recognize and resolve problems, while maintaining organization and efficiency, and to assess need for supervisor intervention
  • Working knowledge of the discipline of Orthotics and Prosthetics             
  • Ability to use scanning and documentation storing applications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of UCSF purchasing policy and procedures  
  • Basic knowledge of BearBuy and other UCSF purchasing systems
