ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

CAS Human Resources provides vital services to 28 departments and 27 centers and institutes within the College of Arts and Sciences. We serve in a consultative role for all levels of leadership; Mangers, Chairs, Directors and Deans. Our focus is to provide direction and guidance to ensure we adhere to college level and university policies and procedures. The Human Resource team is committed to providing a comprehensive understanding with requests involving Recruitment, Classification & Compensation, Employee Relations, and Attendance & Leave. We take pride in developing and maintaining strong relationships with our employees, which consisted of 700+ faculty members and 200 staff, as well as our USF partners.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Environmental Core (ECORE) System consist of the Forest Preserve, Geopark, and Botanical Gardens. The ECORE Director will assume a broad role in the overall management and strategic positioning of the Forest Preserve, Geopark, and Botanical Garden. Leading a team of employees and focusing on these key strategic priorities of the organizations: High Quality, Enjoyable Visitor Experience, Region's Leader in research and education relating to Forest Preserve, Geopark and Botanical, Increase Awareness and Recognition as a Premier Environmental Core System, Establish ECORE as a Critical Community Partner, and Ensure Organizational Health and Sustainability.
The Director must have a solid understanding of natural systems, role and operation of the ECORE elements (Forest Preserve, Botanical Gardens and GEO Park) best practices and convey knowledge about the natural or cultural environment of the areas itself or the habitats it contains, and rely on some feature of the Preserve's environment as essential to success of an activity. He/she will collaborate with advisory committee(s) to facilitate an integrated approach among the ECORE System priorities in science, horticulture, education and the visitor experience. The Director will oversee research, education and community engagement activities, and make recommendations to the Dean that promote the mission to the ECORE System.
The Director of ECORE reports to the Assistant Dean of Research and Scholarship and is an integral part of a team-focused approach developing and achieving aspirational goals. The Director must embrace a challenge, have a strong work ethic, align ECORE goals with budgetary considerations, be a strategic thinker with a "can-do" attitude and respond well under pressure. As a key public face of ECORE, the Director will build relationships both externally and internally with multiple stakeholders and be a passionate advocate mobilizing others to move the ECORE to the next level.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership:

Strategic- Provides leadership linking and integrating the work of ECORE system, facilities, research and education divisions to strengthen the mission. Develop a strategic direction for the ECORE Facilities ensuring cutting edge, innovative solutions and practices with regional impact. Work with the advisory committee(s) to establish and implement ECORE goals and objectives. Initiate and monitor priorities and evaluate the progress towards goals and objectives. Be a change agent who can implement plans, communicate changes effectively, build consensus, monitor the transition and evaluates the results. Effectively manage a fast-paced and seasonal activities. Minimize the organizational obstacles to help teams work more effectively and focus on execution.

Continuation of Strategic Leadership:

Leadership: Emphasizing the primary mission of ECORE, balance the direction related to preservation, conservation, restoration and sustainability issues. Strategically identify and develop relationships and partnerships resulting in financial and operational sustainability insuring a strong community engagement with ECORE. Participate in fundraising efforts providing the vision and passion needed to advance long-standing relationships and future potential supporters. Work collaboratively with internal team members and external organizations to create a commitment to common goals, prioritizing and executing realistic priorities in a professional environment. Working with the advisory committee(s) and the Sr. leadership team, be a critical team member in the master planning for ECORE System. Guide ECORE to be a model for the natural resource/greenspace industry and regional community including advising and consulting with for-profit and non-profit operations as appropriate. Establish and maintain professional relations with vendors, GOV/NGO organizations and individuals regionally and nationally while maximizing the ECORE resources.

Education & Research:

Formulate and build the vision for both a native and regionally diverse plant collection ensuring the ECORE landscapes appeal to broad audiences while building a living collection of plants that supports conservation and interpretation. Showcase and educate the public on the significance of ECORE?s collections and research projects. Annual review of current research ECORE landscapes in order to uphold the mission of ECORE. Review and approve proposals for use of ECORE landscapes for research activities, student activities, workshops and classes. Expand and coordinate research and teaching, seek external funding, and coordinate the use of the Forest Preserve. Oversee land management of the Forest Preserve this includes physical maintenance, prescribed burning etc. Seek membership in national organizations for research stations to establish USF?s presence in organized environmental research, and to encourage cross-fertilization of ideas with other universities.

Production and Display Facilities:

Oversee the development, implementation and assessment of 400+ acres associated with ECORE. Design and oversee the implementation of major plant displays to encourage visitation. Work with the USF Facilities and Planning division to establish and implement preventative maintenance cycles.

Budget & Human and Resource Management:

Participate in strategic planning and resource allocation. Sets the strategic direction of ECORE through effective collaboration with the advisory board and other internal and external constituents. Oversees and leads marketing, communication, and promotions of programs and centers with the assistance of the College's Communications Office. Ensures compliance with local, state, federal and safety regulations in collaboration with USF central offices. Oversee efficiencies and workflow to manage the daily upkeep and demands of ECORE. Manage, design, and implement effective MOUs for research, teaching and community activities throughout the ECORE.

Continuation of Budget & Human and Resource Management:

Collaborate with the Business Manager to develop and administer the budget and identifying funding from diverse sources. Participate in grant writing and actively encourage staff to do the same. Focus and implement the best use of staff time, budget and equipment resources, ordering timelines, planning documents and procedures. Lead and manage a team of professionals providing mentoring as appropriate. Promote a culture of teamwork, support, productivity, dedication and perseverance. Working with the advisory committee(s) and Sr. Leadership, balance revenue generation, cost consciousness, process and policy, outsourcing, planning and resource allocation in a manner that is holistic and strategic and moves the organization forward both in profitability and mission.

MINIMUM:

Master's Degree in natural resource management, horticulture, botany, biology, plant science, science, landscape architecture/design or related field.
