The College of Agriculture and Food Science is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for an OPS Extension Program Assistant vacancy. This position will serve select communities in the City of West Palm Beach, Florida.
This is a temporary position. Responsibilities For the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), the position is responsible for teaching youth and adults, individually and in small groups, about food selection and preparation for an adequate diet. Other topics include food safety and planning food purchases within available funds to provide maximum nutritional value; Recruits youth and adults to participate in the EFNEP Program; Plans, prepares and teaches nutrition education classes to low-income participants at various community and government sites, including schools, parks & recreational departments, churches, health departments and other locations; Recruits and supports volunteer leaders for 4-H type nutrition related programs; Recruits youth to attend special interest and camping programs and assist with presenting food demonstrations and information at these programs; Evaluates knowledge gain and behavior changes through approved evaluation tools; Monthly reporting, data collection and reporting into WebNEERS, as well as other administrative duties; Assumes other assignments and responsibilities in support of the total Extension Program; Makes individual arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions; and assumes regular travel throughout the county and local area, and occasionally at a state and regional level. Minimum Qualifications All applicants must have a minimum high school diploma.
Recommended Competencies Experience with youth and adult learning activities is preferable; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;Ability to recruit, train and manage volunteers;Maintain a personal commitment to working with diverse clientele;Work hour variations depend on meeting deadlines and coordinating special activities for specific programs; andThis position may include weekend work.Pay Plan This is an Other Personnel Support (OPS)/Temporary position. Conditions of Employment Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education.
