The Department of Midwifery is hiring a Preceptor Coordinator at the Bastyr University Kenmore campus. The Department of Midwifery is a leader in educating childbirth professionals. We offer two master’s degree programs, and are proud to see our graduates in leadership roles throughout the U.S. and Canada. The work we do extends past our classrooms into the community of educators who oversee and facilitate our students’ clinical training. How midwives are trained is important.
Bastyr University believes that inclusive diversity is essential for achieving academic excellence and creating a profoundly enriching university experience. Our faculty and staff are committed to achieving our mission by educating students to be future leaders that bring the natural health arts and sciences to people from all backgrounds. Promoting an educational environment that allows students, faculty and staff to develop their talents while experiencing a sense of community, we expect campus members to engage in respectful communication, behaviors and thoughtful self-reflection, increase their understanding of cultures and empower people who are disenfranchised, marginalized or oppressed. In so doing, the University pledges to prepare our students (and support faculty and staff) to recognize and appropriately respond to health inequities that affect multiple communities. This involves infusing DEI knowledge, skills, and practices in all academic programs, clinical training and patient services. In all, Bastyr University is dedicated to the welfare of our students and patients as well as to promoting equal opportunity and access in education and health care.
In alignment with Bastyr’s DEI commitment, applications from members of underrepresented groups are encouraged.

Bastyr University Department of Midwifery strives for continuous challenge and growth in our personal and professional commitment to equity and anti-oppression. The next Preceptor Coordinator will help us to continuously evaluate and improve our processes to work toward our goal of creating anti-racist educational systems.

- Ensuring department policies and procedures are followed for preceptor credentialing and current Educational Affiliation Agreements and maintaining accurate records for all clinical training sites.
- Facilitating student-preceptor relationships through mediation and conflict resolution.
The Preceptor Coordinator will:
- Have access to transportation and be willing and able to travel to network with current and prospective preceptors (approximately 25% of the time, as needed).
- Multitask, prioritize and complete tasks and projects occasionally with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate excellent judgment, discretion, sensitivity and clarity when dealing with students and preceptors in times of stress and involving confidential or sensitive information.
- Provide and receive feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement and development of the program.
- Work well independently and collaboratively as a part of a small department team and at a larger institutional level.
- Maintain organization skills in the midst of changing program needs.

- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey information, give direction and have hard conversations when necessary to resolve preceptor/student conflicts, including issues of equity and inclusion.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and FERPA and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students, preceptors and clinical situations.
