USC Health Sciences Advancement seeks a talented and experienced professional for the position of Data Analyst, Health Sciences Advancement. This position will report to the Director, HSC Advancement Administrative Operations, and serve as the chief interpreter of data.

The successful candidate will be a critical thinker who’s curious, creative, insightful, proactive, resourceful, and detail-oriented. The position requires excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to be decisive and adaptable. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience, preferably in higher education advancement or an academic medical center environment. The discoveries made through the analysis of historic and current data will provide a roadmap for resource allocation, fundraising forecasting, strengths, opportunities, and weaknesses in the fundraising program. An entrepreneurial thinker and problem solver will thrive in this role. He/she must possess strong analytical skills and have a blend of confidence and humility. Familiarity working with leadership is desired. Applicants should be accustomed to and comfortable with receiving and applying feedback and advice to improve performance. Additionally, applicants should be able to demonstrate a history of success in their prior field/position, with a special focus on success in designing, implementing, and administering innovative programs that require creative data-driven solutions and energized problem-solving approaches within the fundraising arena.

Specifically, the Data Analyst will:

  • Identify, mine, and analyze medium and large data sets;

  • Partner closely with stakeholders to identify high-impact data applications and help drive effective decision making;

  • Use data to develop actionable steps that will aid with forecasting, improve processes and optimize results;

  • Analyze data, looking for telltale trends or areas for improvement;

  • Assess stakeholder’s needs;

  • Deliver information to stakeholders, and use it to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of advancement services and programs;

  • Monitor project progress, track activity, resolve issues, recommend actions, and provide leadership with regular updates on status and deliverables by using Salesforce, the USC Advancement database;

  • Partner with colleagues in central University Advancement to identify issues and trends and collaborate to enhance reporting needs;

  • Create reports and presentations providing overviews of methodology and conclusions;

  • Develop charts, graphs, and other visuals that interpret and represent data findings;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience.

Minimum Field of Expertise:

  • Proficient PC skills;

  • Working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and statistical software programs;

  • Knowledge of business statistics and data analyses techniques;

  • Ability to manage and analyze data;

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;

  • Ability to provide both detailed information and summaries to leadership and management in individual and group settings;

  • Experience developing customer relationships and delivering customer-focused service;

  • Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills, and the ability to uncover root cause and evaluate different solution options.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of administrative and/or project analyst experience;

  • Knowledge of quality management methods (i.e. Six Sigma);

  • Experience in a complex medical or academic development setting;

  • Comfortable interfacing with the highest level of advancement and university leadership;

  • Practice a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality;

  • Ability to multi-task effectively and demonstrate strong organizational skills;

  • Sound judgment and decision making;

  • A cooperative and team-oriented attitude;

  • Effective facilitator in various settings.
