Visual Communications SpecialistThe Communication & Creative Services (CCS) team within the Office of Information Technology has a need for a talented Visual Communications Specialist in the areas of graphic and web design. This position supports marketing and promotions for OIT services with creative concepts, graphic designs elements, web content, eNewsletters, digital signage, and various social media applications. This position leads projects and serves as a contributing member on project teams with formal graphic design solutions. This position is responsible for front-end web development including design, development, testing, and documentation of web projects and the maintenance of various OIT websites. This position leads web-based projects, from vision to completion, collaborating with team members, OIT developers, and server admins to complete required project goals. This position provides consultation and training to the UT community on WordPress, web solutions, and graphic design related applications.



Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s in graphic design, computer science or related field or equivalent related experience in graphic design and web design. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in graphic design and web design.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    Graphic Design Solutions:Design and implement graphic design and multimedia for online and print materials in support of OIT projects and for the promotion of OIT services.Manage and maintain any-sized projects with a great degree of independence.Create, apply, and manage consistent brand standards (UT and OIT logos, colors, etc.) across enterprise apps, platforms, and systems.  
Front-end web design and development:Create websites with a focus on user engagement, user experience, site structure, visual design principals, accessibility standards, and responsive design principals. Develop web-based content with WordPress, applying themes, webparts, and adding basic functionality to sites.Consult with clients on applying the UT approved WP themes and UT hosted sites.Collaborate with OIT programmers, back-end developers, and server administrators based on client or project needs.Training and Consultation:Develop and deliver workshops and training materials in the areas of web design, graphic design, infomration design, and user experience.Train, consult, and troubleshoot with customers on websites, WordPress, and other web content management apps.  Research and stay current on new technologies.Ability and willingness to learn and apply new aspects of web technology to teaching and learning. Excellent interpersonal skills are required, along with the ability to work within teams with ever-changing challenges and responsibilities.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Required Job Skills:

    Expertise in applying formal visual design principles.Expertise with image editors and layout software including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe lnDesign. Advanced skills in HTML and CSS.Intermediate experience in applying usability and accessibility standards to digital content.Experience with WordPress languages, webparts, applying themes and adding basic functionality to sites.
Preferred Job Skills:

    Knowledge of jQuery, PHP.Experience with multimedia authoring tools such as TechSmith Camtasia; Adobe Captivate, or Articulate Storyline; and presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint.Experience with teaching or training.Experience working in higher education environments.
