HIRING SALARY: $34,507.20 annually
HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday

MAJOR FUNCTIONS: The Reading Room Facilitator is housed within the Division of Workforce Development and reports to the Direct Inmate Services Manager. The Facilitator will oversee and assist students in the use of an instructional reading/writing laboratory and/or a language lab. The lab will include computers, books, and workbooks which cover a variety of reading skills and levels.
Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Oversees and assists the teacher and students in the use of an instructional reading/writing laboratory and/or a language lab, while maintaining a proper study atmosphere. Assists tutors with information concerning operation of computers.
- Prepares and maintains written rules, procedures and instructions concerning use of the lab and programs. Assists instructors with lab orientation for students as necessary.
- Operates a computer terminal including computers and printers, to complete readability evaluations for textbooks. Maintains and monitors student time on computer. Maintains and prepares student records and informs instructors of recorded information as needed. Assists tutors with information concerning operation of computers.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Associates degree with at least one-year customer service experience or high-school diploma with at least 3 years customer service experience. Experience working in a classroom, or a reading/writing or language lab is highly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of operation of computers and printers related peripheral equipment. Lab procedures. Instructional methods used in a specified academic subject area. Operating procedures and practices appropriate to an instructional computer laboratory. Principles of training and work direction. Recordkeeping techniques. Skilled in operating a computer and using computer software and peripherals. Skilled in operate an electronic keyboard at an acceptable rate of speed. Oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Ability to interact with instructors and students to promote an effective and safe learning environment. Respond to student questions regarding a specified academic subject area. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Train and provide work direction to students. Maintain records and files. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
