The University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences & Advanced Medicine, Section of Medicine invites qualified individuals to apply for an open faculty position in the Tenure Track (TT) in Animal Welfare and Behavior (AWB) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The strongest candidates for this position will have a record of, or clear potential for scholarship in, AWB science that includes extramural grants, studies, and program development. The successful candidate’s primary area of focus might involve any number of AWB scientific fields including animal behavior and welfare science, cognitive neuroscience, and human-animal interaction, amongst others. In addition to scholarship, TT faculty also must excel in teaching and/or service.

The successful candidate will enjoy a wealth of opportunities that will enable them to fulfill these responsibilities in a highly collaborative environment within an active academic teaching hospital (www.vet.upenn.edu/about/what-we-do/pennvet-leads and https://www.vet.upenn.edu/research/academic-departments/clinical-sciences-advanced-medicine).  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage and/or integrate with established and interdisciplinary programs within the School of Veterinary Medicine, including Behavior Medicine (https://www.vet.upenn.edu/veterinary-hospitals/ryan-veterinary-hospital/services/behaviormedicine), Shelter Medicine (https://www.vet.upenn.edu/research/centers-laboratories/research-initiatives/shelter-medicine), the Penn Vet Working Dog Center (https://www.vet.upenn.edu/wdc), and the MSc program in Animal Welfare and Behavior (https://www.vet.upenn.edu/education/graduate-programs/msc-animal-welfare-behavior). The University provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes multiple options for retirement savings and tuition benefits for the candidate’s spouse and/or dependent children. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual who enjoys living and working in a vibrant urban environment with an abundance of cultural resources, including music, art, theaters, and fine dining (www.upenn.edu/life-at-penn/philadelphia). Philadelphia offers easy access to New York and Washington DC.
