The Associate Director will work directly with the director to support the mission and vision of the Kummer Center for STEM Education. The assistant director will support K-12 programming and outreach within various departments at Missouri University of Science and Technology, school districts, and other relevant entities.

Directs the development and integration of student support services to support the teaching programs of the Kummer Center for STEM Education. Explains these policies and procedures to advise and assist others and/or team. Manage to promote high morale, productivity, and job satisfaction while encouraging an educational work environment. Develop competent and motivated staff through effective supervision; direct and/or indirect training; performance management and offering timely recognition for work well done. Provide feedback to Director regarding performance levels. Confront problem employees effectively, basing decisions on performance and taking necessary corrective and disciplinary actions. Recommend wage and salary changes and/or promotions or transfers.

  • Oversees and guides daily operations, implementation of procedures, etc.
  • Coordination and supervision of K-12 students and events, both externally and internally; Project Management-coordination with K-12 school districts and relevant entities on campus including STEM departments, facilitation of meetings, field trips, and summer experiences.
  • May serve as a representative for the functional unit; Serve as a representative of the Kummer Center for STEM Education which could include collecting data and creation of visuals appropriate for various audiences, both internally and externally including K-12 students, K-12 educators, faculty, businesses, and community partners.
  • Coordinates resources and sets daily priorities to meet operational objectives and offset competing priorities including coordinating educator events including coordination with S&T faculty for development of educational activities, external entities, and community partners.
  • Completion of required reports and evaluations for existing grants, including fiscal responsibility such as development of budgets and other financial documentation, Grant Writing and evaluation; required grant reporting. Preparation of grant applications with stakeholder feedback; creating, revising, or location of assessment instruments for evaluation of grant and other STEM Center activities, management of previously awarded grants.

  • Provides input to long-term plans and strategies for the function including budgeting and resourcing
  • Ensures daily operations are in compliance with university, local, state and federal policies and regulations
  • Uses judgment to identify, troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day technical and/or operational problems
  • Impacts the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team and its contribution to the STEM Center
  • Explains information, conveys performance expectations and handles sensitive issues
  • May perform some of the work supervised/managed
  • Identifying funding sources in addition to developing funding resources for existing and proposed programs and/or services

About the Organization:

The Kummer Center for STEM Education is a new center focused entirely on providing opportunity and access to K-12 students in STEM fields. The Kummer Center for STEM Education’s goals are to lead and coordinate outreach initiatives (K-12) that leverage S&T’s expertise to improve educational experiences for students and instructional experiences for teachers in school districts in south-central Missouri; and to lead and coordinate efforts on S&T's campus to improve learning and teaching experiences in STEM disciplines. The Center will serve K-12 students and teachers primarily in the rural schools of south-central Missouri, aligned with the vision of the Kummer Institute. This is a fast-paced, ever-changing environment full of opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in an education field, either K-12 or Higher Education
  • Master’s Degree
  • Educator credential
  • Grant writing experience is preferred
  • Experience submitting grants
  • Program evaluation training
