Summary of Duties:

This posting will be used to hire two (2) Assistants To the Associate Dean positions. One hire will serve the Office of Research and one will be responsible to the Associate Dean/Director of WSU Extension.

CAHNRS Office of Research:

The Assistant To position serves as confidential administrative support to the Associate Dean/Director and the Associate Director of the CAHNRS Office of Research (COR). Maintains a high level of University and College policies and procedures knowledge and application related to the COR.

Maintains and oversees the day to day constituency services for the Associate Dean/Director in management of the COR and serves as an information resource for faculty and staff. Special projects and events are coordinated by this position.

Extension:

The person in this position will have a broad range of responsibilities related to the activities and operations of WSU Extension, including acting as administrative coordinator, often on complex and confidential issues, for internal and external constituencies such as, other units of WSU, both in Pullman and throughout the state, with other state and federal offices, and with stakeholders.

The position provides overall management of administrative operations for the office of the Associate Dean for WSU Extension and is the lead coordinator for training extension program administrative managers in areas of personnel, payroll, travel, fiscal, and other administrative processes. Participates as part of the WSU Extension leadership staff providing input on policy and procedural matters.

The position requires a high degree of professionalism and strong communication and organizational skills. This individual will work with the Administrative Team in implementing policies and guidelines for WSU Extension.


Required Qualifications:

Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in business administration or other relevant field AND five (5) years of managing administrative support experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with land grant university agricultural experiment station operations and procedures including federal capacity funds and reporting.

  • Knowledge of basic office duties and progressive responsibility toward supervisory positions;

  • Ability to organize projects and deal with personnel in an effective manner.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability in event planning, from inception to completion.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage several different projects or tasks simultaneously.

  • Previous experience with distance technologies to conduct the business of the organization, including conference calls and videoconferencing.

  • Ability to work independently, plan ahead, and take initiative to prepare for both routine and non-routine work demands.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of land-grant University mission, operations, policies, and procedures.

  • Experience as a confidential executive assistant.

  • Experience in preparing for and planning meetings and special events.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
