Job Description:

As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks applicants for a Director of K-12 School and Community Programs. The Director of K-12 School and Community Programs will build upon Marian University’s existing community and school partnerships, create new ones, and facilitate the deeper engagement of our students, faculty, and staff in the Near Northwest Area that surrounds Marian’s campus. This will require building rich, multi-faceted relationships with the diverse K-12 schools in this area, with the Catholic schools, and with other youth-serving organizations such as Flanner House, Newfields, The Center for Leadership Development, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, and Junior Achievement.The Director of K-12 Programs is a self-starter with exceptional relational skills. Previous experience in K-12 schools and/or in community development is required, and familiarity with the Near Northwest Area. The Director needs the ability to make presentations as well as represent Marian University in a positive and professional way to diverse populations. Additionally, this person will collaborate with professionals in various divisions across campus such as Mission and Ministry, Enrollment, Marketing Communications, Alumni, and various academic departments and schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Maximizes the relationship of Marian University with K-12 partners and youth-serving organizations to activate our institutional strategic priority of increasing access and success at Marian for economically challenged and minority students, especially those in the Near Northwest Area that surrounds our campus.
  • Coordinates engagement of K-12 students, their families, teachers and schools with Marian University faculty and staff.
  • Organizes activities on-campus and off, including summer camps and programs, to connect K-12 students and their families with Marian University to increase enrollment and retention, especially of economically challenged and minority students.
  • Collaborates with Athletics, Enrollment, the Klipsch Educators College, the Latino Initiative and other departments and schools to identify and engage K-12 students and their families with Marian University.
  • Assists with the development and execution of summer camps and programs and academic year programs for K-12 students.
  • Designs and implements a Neighborhood Pass to allow K-12 students and families to participate in Marian University activities and events at no cost.
  • Identifies and implements a camp management software system to facilitate K-12 engagement with Marian University.
  • Develops and oversees the Camp Ambassador program for Marian University students to serve as mentors and staff for Marian University summer programs.
  • Develops and executes scholarship program for summer program participants, establishing criteria, applications, and coordinating distribution with the business office.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Marketing Communication to develop materials to promote Marian University K-12 programs to K-12 students, families and schools in a timely and efficient way.
  • Collaborates with K-12 program managers to coordinate transportation needs for summer activities.
  • Supervises the Coordinator of University Engagement and Events to streamline K-12 program registration and ongoing communication with participation and families.
  • Maintains strong relationships with K-12 program participants, families and schools;
  • Participates in internal and external meetings and activities as appropriate.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and General Counsel.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 5 years’ experience in K-12 education, community development or higher education.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience working in the Near Northwest Area or in a similarly situated community in Indianapolis.

Essential Functions:Work hours necessary to perform job requirements satisfactorily on a regular basis. Manage absence from work in responsible manner to ensure service to clients, work teams, and coworkers. Comply with Marian University policies and practices and seeking clarification of them when necessary.
