Job Profile Summary

This position will perform complex work in the repair, maintenance and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment and systems.  

Minimum Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalency required.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Three or more years of experience in recognized trade required.
  • Certification from accredited HVAC Technical School.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Minimum Certification/Licenses:

  • EPA Freon Certificate
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required or, as a condition of continued employment, a Valid Florida Driver’s License within 30 days after beginning employed by the College.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily -40%: Installs, maintains and repairs heating, ventilating, air conditioning equipment and systems.
  • Daily -20%: Operates a variety of equipment as needed to perform work.
  • Daily -5%: Installs, maintains and repairs computerized Direct Digital, pneumatic devices related to HVAC control.
  • Daily -5%: Operates various measuring and testing equipment.
  • Other, As Needed -5%: Maintains electronic and pneumatic testing equipment.
  • Bi-Weekly -10%: Communicates and works with vendors to arrange service for warranted parts, select appropriate replacement parts and troubleshoot problems.
  • Other, As Needed -5%: Reads blueprints, piping and wiring diagrams.
  • Other, As Needed -5%: Performs brazing, soldering, pipefitting and welding.
  • Monthly -5%: Responsible for inventory of supplies and control storage of materials.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of A/C systems, controls, pneumatic electric and electronic controls, A/C motors, and pumps
  • May train other non-skilled or semi-skilled staff within the trade
  • Ability to recognize needs of unit and own responsibility
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff within grounds and maintenance
  • Proficient skills in one or more trades
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle is required
  • The ability to prepare correspondence and reports relating to day to day activities
