Department of Medicine: Medical Genetics has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 1.

The Division of Medical Genetics currently has an opportunity for a Research Scientist 1 to work on epigenomics and CRISPR genome editing in the Hawkins lab. The lab conducts a number of different next-generation sequencing-based experiments to study how the epigenome contributes to gene regulation and cell fate and then validates these findings using CRISPR genome and epigenome editing. This individual will provide technical expertise and help with laboratory managerial responsibilities. This position is a critical member of the lab who will work with others as well as independently. The primary project involves generating epigenomic data such as ChIP-seq, whole genome bisulfite sequencing, RNA-seq and CRISPR editing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Tissue Culture, tissue dissection – 20%
•Chromatin isolation/immunoprecipitation, ChIP-seq – 20%
•DNA manipulation: PCR, ligation, extraction, bisulfite conversion – 10%
•RNA isolation, RNA-seq – 10%
•Preparation of Illumina libraries. Loading Illumina sequencers – 10%
•CRISPR/Cas9 transfections – 10%
•qPCR – 10%
•Lab management: ordering, safety, other responsibilities as needed – 10%

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree and three months to one year of molecular biology experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires that you work well with others, have good communication skills, feel comfortable presenting your work to others, and help train others in your area of expertise.
