Bastyr University is seeking an Academic Advisor/Degree Coordinator to join the advising team in our Registrar’s Office.
This person will advise graduate level students in the Naturopathic Medicine program. Academic advising is a collaborative relationship between a student and an academic advisor. The intent of this partnership is to advise and collaborate with students in completing their programs on time. A high degree of attention to detail, excellent communication and problem-solving skills is required for this position.
Compensation: $21- $24.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Advise graduate level students regarding their academic progress and university policies.
- Coordinate with the naturopathic medicine department regarding the course offerings; analyze and create an individualized quarterly plan of courses for ND students.
- Register ND students in their quarterly required courses.
- Develop and maintain systems to track student progress accurately and efficiently for on-time graduation.
- Evaluate students’ academic coursework to determine eligibility to take licensing exams, enter clinic, and fulfill graduation requirements.
- Generally, devote 60% of time to traditional registrar functions, 25% of time to direct interactions with students, and 15% of time to coordination with naturopathic department.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Works under the general supervision of the University Registrar.
Education and Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Two to four years’ experience in academic advising or related careers in post-secondary education, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of the position.
- Ability to learn and use complex computer-based systems and multi-faceted network related software and database management systems.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to process and maintain highly confidential information.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals of varying backgrounds, abilities, outlooks, ages, and nationalities.
- Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit or stand in a stationary position and also move about the inside of the office or building with appropriate accommodation
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: All new employees must provide proof of fully vaccinated status on or before their first workday. People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.
