Director of Student Engagement and Support/ Title IX Coordinator

The Director of Student Engagement and Support / Title IX Coordinator oversees the day to day operations of the Student Engagement Office. This position is responsible for the following areas: campus life, student leadership development, Student Engagement member on Retention Committee, First-Year Experience, student activities, student crisis management and intervention, policy formation and policy enforcement, and other duties assigned by the Dean of Students.

Essential Functions / Goals

  • Student Leadership and Activities:
  • Supervise the Coordinator of Student Engagement and grow the position professionally
  • Supervise Associated Students of DigiPen student employees (meeting with President of ASD weekly)
  • Assist with student employee hiring, training, tracking, and development
  • Meet with students regarding student, staff, and faculty concerns and facilitate a professional response or interaction
  • Assist with walk-in students on a daily basis

First Year Experience:

  • Assist the Coordinator of Student Engagement with New Student Orientations
  • Advise and mentor students at risk on an ongoing bases
  • Build relationships with students and student organizations


  • Serve as a member of the Student Retention Task Force/ Committee, with oversight over Campus Wide Retention evaluation and promotion of best practices
  • Plan and schedule meetings with Task Force /Committee Chairs, and record the Committee meeting notes, distribute notes after meeting and follow up with tasks assigned to committee members
  • Work with department leadership to develop and implement strategic and targeted programming and retention efforts for various groups of students
  • Conduct institutional research methods to improve services, including through the facilitation of annual Program Town Halls
  • Research best practices for retention and suggest programs
  • Communicate and collaborate with faculty and staff to improve campus-wide retention efforts
  • Assist in the Academic Withdrawal process through the administration of the Exit Survey Process, including collecting, organizing and reporting on data

Student Conduct & Case Management Coordinator

  • Manage main campus and co-manage DigiPen Housing Incident Reports and coordinate follow-up efforts with issues of concern
  • Ensure incident reports are responded to in a quick and timely manner, setting up follow up meetings within 24 business hours of receiving reports
  • Student crisis management and intervention (Providing resources and continued follow up)
  • Serve as first level conduct review manager
  • Assist and advise Faculty with student behavior concerns within classrooms
  • Serve as Title IX Coordinator
  • Educate faculty, staff, and students regarding the student conduct process yearly
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO)
  • Coordinate the Judicial Process for students who are accused of academic dishonesty
  • Form and update new campus policies and procedures as needed, approved by Dean of Students
  • Manage the evolution, updating, enforcement, and communication of policies contained in the Student Handbook
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Competencies

Qualifications include:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education or related field
  • Must meet the Department of Homeland Security's requirements for a Designated School Official (Legal resident alien or U.S. Citizen)
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills; ability to work in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments
  • Flexible, self-motivated and able to take initiative
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when assessing a student's needs and determining whether the student should be referred to other resources
  • Demonstrated ability to use and learn appropriate technology including MS Office and institutional databases
  • A.S.I.S.T. Certification (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) or another suicide prevention and intervention certificate approved by Dean of Students (must be obtained within 6 months of hire date)

Experience Level

  • Master's degree
  • Experience working in higher education for 5+ years
  • Experience supervising professional staff for 2+ years
  • Experience planning and executing retention programming

Working conditions

Evenings and weekends may be required, as well as travel both in-state and out-of-state. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. May need to lift up to 25 lbs. Generally the job requires 90% sitting, 10% walking/standing.
