Position Summary

Job Title: Graphic Designer

Department: University Communications & Marketing

Reports To: UMC Creative Director

Status: Non-Exempt

Time Commitment: 40 hours per week

Position Summary:

The Graphic Designer works under the direction of the Creative Director, UMC and collaboratively with marketing team members and clients. Conceptualizes, designs, and produces materials for a variety of digital, print, and electronic mediums in support of university marketing efforts. Creates clean, effective, and accessible designs consistent with university image and brand while meeting revolving production deadlines.

  • Duties

    Conceptualize, design, and produce digital, print and electronic marketing materials for university clients through clear and effective communication and collaboration with team members, clients, coworkers and vendorsColor correct and/or enhance photography for materialsPrepare design files for printing; package and supply final files to creative vendors and partners Prepare digital assets that meet technical requirements for online marketing and branding projectsMaintain a well-organized digital file system of projects and assetsMeets deadlines for print and digital marketing materialsQualifications

    Required

    Demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to the Christian mission of the universityBachelor’s degree in design or related field or equivalent experience in graphic designCustomer service orientation Willingness to learn new technology and design techniquesAbility to maintain confidentiality and respond to changes in a timely mannerWell-developed communications skills and an ability to clearly and effectively communicate with marketing experts such as supervisors, other designers, print houses and vendors, as well as non-designers including peers, students, clients and coworkers in a positive, professional manner Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationshipsQualified candidates will be prepared to demonstrate excellent design ability through the presentation of design work, either via personal or professional website, or by providing a digital portfolio in the form of a PDFExperience with Adobe Creative Cloud (CC), with an emphasis in InDesign, Photoshop, and IllustratorBasic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointExperience publishing digitally accessible documents using Microsoft Word and Adobe AcrobatAbility to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, meet production deadlines and
    prioritize multiple jobs and tasksKnowledge of current design, typography, photography, printing techniques and digital formatsUnderstanding of printing processes and requirements, print graphic design principles, color theory and principals and print workflow processesExperience in photo color correction and manipulationBasic skills in creating original vector graphics, such as icons and infographics

    Preferred

    Basic knowledge and/or training in digital photographyExperience in art directing photo shoots, indoors and outdoors Experience using Microsoft Excel and PowerPointExperience using digital design platforms such as Figma, Adobe XD or SketchExperience with content publishing using web platforms including WordPress or DrupalExperience working with basic HTML and CSSExperience in marketing Christian higher educationUniversity Information

    Environmental Conditions:

  • Indoors in normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes at least ninety percent (90 percent) of the time
  • Frequent computer use at workstation, up to eight hours per day
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
  • Proficient at multitasking
  • Public contact position requiring business-like apparel
  • Physical Demands:

  • Indoor work environment and travel for meetings and events
  • Perform the following, with or without reasonable accommodation: stand, sit, kneel, stoop, reach, lift, grasp, finger, see (near and far) for reading and data analysis on a computer screen, hear and talk for ordinary conversation and telephone calls
  • Perform analytical and cognitive thinking and decision making
  • Approximately 90 percent of this position’s duties require use of a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds

  • Travel alone between campuses
