Position Summary:

The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for providing outstanding customer service to both the assigned physician and patients within the Department of Orthopedics.  The individual in this position will perform a broad spectrum of duties related to the effective and efficient scheduling of patients for outpatient visits and procedure.  This includes maintaining precise interactions with nurses, physicians, and any other departments or functions involved in the delivery of patient care services.

This role will communicate with physicians and other healthcare team members to ensure the availability of facilities and staff. The individual in this position will function as the liaison between the patient and the providers for all non-clinical issues including scheduling procedures in both the minor procedure room and operating rooms, communicating pre-procedure instructions and appointment confirmations, insurance verifications and/or pre-authorizations as necessary.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Duties:

Essential Duties:  

    Generate various types of letters in EPIC and mailing out as needed.Schedule patient visits, including completing data entry in Epic and preparing all necessary documentation within medical record for the physician to review.Serve as a liaison for the patients in relation to all non-clinical issues; resolve and/or triage issues based on independent judgement.Determine if there will be any insurance pre-authorization needed, and mail information packets to patients as necessary.  Must understand the relative timeline of patient visits and procedures and schedule accordingly.  This will frequently require working with multiple room schedules and making adjustments based on each patient’s needs.Obtain referrals and authorizations as necessary for all clinic patient encounters, procedures and surgeries.  This will require interactions with insurance companies and a working knowledge of various types of insurance along with CPT and Dx coding.   Preauthorize procedures and surgeries.Triage new patient referrals (fax and phone); email out new patient information.Triage incoming patient phone calls; answer questions and triage Process requests for medical records.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring range (or budgeted range) for this position begins at $44,052 per year.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary rate represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • 1- 2 years of patient registration and/or insurance processes experience
Conditions of Employment:

    Healthcare provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or certification within 60 days of hire
Combination of related education and experience may be considered.
