Job Description

The Department of Surgery at UMKC is looking for a Senior Research Assistant to provide technical assistance with the ongoing research within the department. The duties of the Senior research assistant will be to:


• Provide research assistance to Dr. Cuthbert Simpkins MD
• Order and maintain adequate levels of supplies
• Perform routine laboratory maintenance and research activities such as: Daily observation of animal health, administration of pharmaceuticals such as anesthesia analgesia to animals. Harvesting of tissues, cell culture and obtaining specimens for biological testing such as ELISA, general housekeeping, post-operative care
• Administer euthanasia to animals
• Engage in training students who are working in Dr. Simpkins’ laboratory.
• Maintain quality control of instruments in the laboratory
• Analyze data and use various statistical methods
• Research information for the experiments.
• Maintain accurate timely and well-organized records of experimental data and procedures
• Keep abreast of new and updated protocols
• Comply with all government and university policies, rules, regulations and codes

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for the Research Assistant title, applicants for this position should have a Bachelor’s degree.

To qualify for the Senior Research Assistant title, applicants for this position should have a Master’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants with a PhD

This is full time 12 month unranked non tenure track position.
