The Rollins College Center for Career & Life Planning is seeking an Assistant Director, Career Exploration to join their team! The Assistant Director of Career Exploration is a full-time staff member whose primary responsibility is to develop, manage, and assess a range of career exploration programming including mentoring, flash mentoring, shadowing, career immersions, and networking programs that support the students’ career plans and professional growth. Through these programs, students will expand their network, explore and refine their career interests, and learn from ‘champions’, alumni, employers and friends of the College who share their career-related knowledge, advice, and opportunities with students.

Additionally, this individual serves as the Career Center point person for student advising and programming around professional networking and career engagement. The Assistant Director will build relationships and partnerships with potential career champions, campus departments, faculty members, administrators, and employers to provide a broad range of services and programs connecting current students with career opportunities.

Position Preview:
  • Develop, manage, and assess career exploration programs that engage alumni and employers to share insight, experience and opportunities with students. These include the Career Champions suite of programs, networking events, career immersions, study-away career experiences, job shadowing and site visits, and the pre-med observership program.
  • Build new programs as new student needs and employer opportunities emerge.

Career Champions Mentor Program

  • Develop and manage a formal mentorship program that connects current students with alumni and friends of the College to provide them with career-related knowledge, resources, opportunities, and assistance.
  • Manage the student application, selection, and pairing process for the formal program, partnering with the Office of Alumni Engagement to identify possible mentors.
  • Manage initial communications to mentors, training for mentees and mentors, regular mentor/mentee outreach, and end of the year evaluations and student reflections/meetups.
  • Manage team of Relationship Managers who build capacity around the mentee training and communication component of the program.

Chat with a Champ

  • Develop and coordinate flash mentoring and networking opportunities that allow students to connect with alumni and friends of the College in brief interactions such as panels, networking events, informational interviews, and classroom visits. The goal of these opportunities is to allow alumni and friends of the College to share valuable career and industry insight to students, to provide students with the experience of professional networking, and to create the potential for lasting professional connections between the Career Champions and students.

Day with a Champ

  • Coordinate workplace site visits for students at the place of employment of alumni and friends of the College. These shadowing opportunities will allow students to learn about the day to day experience in specific career fields and professions while exposing students to a variety of professional environments.

Champion in Residence

  • Coordinate and host alumni and friends of the College for day-long residencies on campus to connect with students for career support and to provide industry insight to CCLP staff and faculty.
  • Activities during the residency could include meeting with students, serving as a panelist, speaking in the classroom, and connecting with students over a meal or during informational interviews.

Connect with a Champ

  • Oversee the informal connections program that students opt in to through a Connect with a Champ networking appointment, giving them tools and access to the database of alumni and friends of the College who are interested and open to connecting with Rollins students for networking via LinkedIn.
  • Manage Connect with a Champ networking appointment training for CCLP staff and undergraduate and graduate student employees.

Pre-Med Job Shadowing Program

  • Support the pre-med job shadowing program, co-managing the student application, selection, orientation, and debrief processes, as well as setting up the corresponding Canvas course, and creating new and innovative experiential opportunities for pre-med students.
  • Work closely with the leadership team and Advent Health Graduate Medical Education program residency coordinators on an annual basis to secure and expand on student placements, and to coordinate student paperwork and instructions.
  • Build and expand career immersions, study away career experiences, site visits, and job shadowing opportunities.
  • Promote career exploration programs to students to enhance visibility of the opportunities and increase student participation.
  • Conduct thorough programmatic assessment to measure the impact of the broad range of career exploration programs and initiatives. Review assessment results and leverage institutional and external relationships and feedback to inform ongoing improvement. Assess the campus needs in order to guide development of new programs.
  • Share the stories coming from career exploration programs in order to promote future engagement from students, alumni, employers, and friends of the College. Create an annual report to share the program successes, challenges, and new initiatives with administrators.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications department to share broadly the stories of impact resulting from career exploration programs.
  • Utilize Student Affairs learning outcomes assessment metrics to evaluate career exploration programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinate logistics for employer receptions, spotlights, info sessions, networking events, workshops, on-campus recruiting, etc.

Other Departmental Responsibilities

  • Support Gateway programming, strategy and implementation through cross-departmental collaboration, integration of Gateway language into CCLP programming, and support helping students identify and articulate their Gateway experiences.
  • Serve as the CCLP point person for student advising and programming around professional networking and career engagement. Provide updates to Career Center staff and graduate assistants focused on trends and recommendations for student advising around these topics.
  • Research best practices and remain current on career shadowing, immersions and mentoring trends, strategies, programs, and services offered by other institutions. Develop strategic partnerships to inform career exploration programs and events that are beneficial to the Rollins community.
  • Supervise graduate assistants and student workers to assist with career exploration work.
  • Manage the career exploration program budgets.
  • Represent Career & Life Planning team and Rollins at various professional associations, panels, and meetings as necessary.
  • Support to the Career Development team in the CCLP with outreach presentations, student appointments, and document reviews when needed and as availability allows.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with latest trends, legal issues and best practices pertaining to experiential learning, career development, job search and social media/marketing strategies.
  • Understanding and familiarity with multiple areas of professional development pertaining to career exploration, application and interview processes, including job searching, resume and cover letter writing, and interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with department constituents including faculty, staff, students, alumni, employers, parents, and vendors, while establishing and maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of today's world of work and its relationship to student’s academic preparation.
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate programs that engage a wide range of audiences, including traditionally and non-traditionally aged students, alumni, parents, employers, faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge, skill and proficiency in using a variety of computer software programs including Word, Excel, Access, and various social media platforms.
  • Ability to analyze information and make judgment-based decisions.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to change.
  • Master’s degree in counseling, college student personnel, human resources, or a related field.

Work Environment:

  • Campus-based, front-facing customer service position, working in an office environment.
  • Work requires visual strain and use of computer.
  • Evenings and weekends as appropriate and required.
