Overview

The Performing Arts Services group is hiring for temporary Front of House staff positions. Reporting to the Audience Services Manager, and based in Richardson Auditorium, this team leads the front of house team during concerts and events at Princeton University.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee all public areas of the building before, during, and after events
  • Manage Event Assistants and volunteer usher team during events
  • Communicate with production crew to run the event and provide artist support
  • Welcome and assist patrons from the University and the surrounding community into the venue
  • Work with the production crew to ensure that all of the client’s needs are met

Additional information:

  • The Front of House (FOH) staff member typically arrives three hours prior to the beginning of an event.
  • FOH staff leads a meeting with Event Assistants and ushers to convey information about the event and to assign duties.
  • FOH staff works with the ticketing staff to troubleshoot seating issues, and provides support to patrons with accessibility needs in order to best accommodate them.
  • At the end of the event, staff is responsible for seeing that the building is closed and locked, and that all front of house materials have been restored to their proper locations.
  • The FOH staff is responsible for contacting Public Safety should an incident take place in the hall during an event.
  • The FOH staff will mainly work in Richardson Auditorium at Alexander Hall, but will also be called upon to work events in other locations, including the Woodrow Wilson School and the University Chapel. Most events take place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. There are occasional weekday events. There will be several shifts available per month.
  • This job offers an opportunity to assist in the production of major university events. Recent guest lecturers include Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Meryl Streep, Arianna Huffington and John Stewart. Richardson Auditorium is also home to multiple classical concert music series, including Princeton University Concerts, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Many of Princeton University’s music ensembles also perform at Richardson, including the Princeton University Orchestra, Princeton University Concert Jazz Ensemble, Glee Club, and student-run groups including HighSteppers and the Princeton Pianists Ensemble.
Qualifications

Essential qualifications:

  • Experience successfully managing a team
  • Extensive customer service experience, as well as a pleasant and friendly disposition
  • Ability to think quickly and troubleshoot in a calm manner
