Position Focus:
Reporting to the Medical School Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid, the Director of Admissions at the Yale School of Medicine serves as an ambassador to our incoming students and is responsible for oversight of the Admissions Office including the personnel (Associate Director, 2 Assistant Directors and an Administrative Assistant) and office management, Contract & Participation Agreements, maintenance of merchant account for application fee and tuition deposit, and other student-related duties. The Director is also responsible for the oversight of Admissions-related events which include: Outreach recruitment events, Second Look Weekend, Admissions Committee training session, Executive Committee retreat and Groups ABC retreat. Admissions Committee responsibilities held by this position include co-chair four Admissions committees, the analysis and maintenance of admissions data, maintaining the online Policies & Procedures manual and overall communications and process coordination.

Additionally, the Director is responsible for the management of infrastructure and reporting which includes Yale University's Banner system, admissions related surveys and the annual update of YSM curriculum and admissions requirements. Additional responsibilities include responsibilities in National & Local service, some of which include being the Yale admissions representative in the 13 School Consortium, Yale Admissions Council, Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS), AMCAS annual participation agreement, MSAR (Medical School Admission Requirements), editor and Certiphi (Criminal Background Check System). The Director is also responsible for technical oversight and being a liaison with parties from AMP, AMCAS, Cybersource, SLATE, Yale ITS and Yale web development. The Director will also work to advance the vision and priorities of the Associate Dean in order to update and strengthen programs and services for students, faculty, and staff and may perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties:
1. Directs, monitors, and assesses needs and directs the application of resources of an administrative University office dealing with one or more major functional areas. 2. Directs and implements solutions to problems that are routine to complex in nature and that affect multiple functional areas of responsibility. 3. Plans and/or participates in planning University activities on a long-term basis to comply with University goals and objectives. 4. Establishes and implements consistent university-wide policies in multiple functional areas of responsibility. 5. Ensures that University office policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. 6. Develops and monitors goals and objectives for managerial and professional staff in compliance with University strategies. 7. Directs a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and six years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Exceptional oral and written communication skills required to interact effectively with a range of internal and external constituencies. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and public relations skills with the ability to develop strong professional relationships.

Ability to work well with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff. Strong organizational and supervisory skills. Demonstrated ability supervising staff and leading teams and providing oversight of events.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Demonstrated strong analytical and technical skills, including ability to work with advanced MS Office, complex databases and spreadsheets. Expert level data analysis skills in Excel.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrated ability to manage and oversee admissions efforts.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced and changing environment and to lead with a positive and can-do attitude that supports the mission of the school.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Minimum of 5 years experience in admissions at the graduate school level. Our online admissions application software is custom for our use. It is preferred that candidates have a minimum experience in Information Technology of 2 years with respect to software development cycles and experience with software testing.
