Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job:The Department of Art at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art starting Fall 2022. We are seeking applicants with an MFA in Drawing or a related 2D Studio Art. Applicants should be able to teach all levels of drawing. Other areas of expertise in painting, installation, or transmedia are desirable. Our drawing curriculum includes foundation courses that focus on observational skills and fundamentals of drawing, courses in figure drawing, and courses that expand the notion of drawing through conceptual development. Students in the studio art program are encouraged to create site specific projects, social practices, and participatory community engaged projects.
Duties include teaching a 2/3 course load, service on departmental committees, and include an expectation of sustained, peer-reviewed creative activity or research.

Candidates must possess an MFA or terminal degree in a related field and demonstrate outstanding potential in research and/or creative activity.
Experience Required for the Position:Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is required.
Other Requirements for the Position:The successful candidate will have an ongoing, sustainable, and engaged art practice, and be prepared to be an active faculty member who is engaged with the department, college, University, local and professional communities.
