Compensation: Hourly Rate of $13.76 as per the Santa Fe College Salary Schedule. Limited to 15-20 hours per week.

Description:

This position is responsible for providing support for a U.S. Department of Agriculture funded project titled “Florida Heritage Initiative: Connecting Local Food with Local Culture in Florida Farmers Markets.” The faculty members and administrators involve in this project rely on part-time student aides who will assist with the organization of community events and materials related to them. Student work hours can be flexible and accommodating to the student’s class schedule. However, students will be required to attend the events to be organized as part of this grant project.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Help prepare and organize symposia, festivals, club presentations

  • Coordinate preparation of flyers, room reservations, lecture presentations, printing flyers, etc.

  • Design and develop food-based presentations and dissemination of project.

  • Help organize a multicultural food festival together with the project coordinator and directors

  • Maintain a list of invited speakers

  • Send invitation letter to events speakers

  • Send invitation letter to Santa Fe College stakeholders and community partners

  • Support the preparation of a toolkit to help farmers and market managers select cultural themes for food and cultural themes for food and cultural events to introduce heritage foods to the general public

  • Coordinate crop availability with farmers

  • Assist with booth preparation at farmer’s market

  • Prove support for workshops and food demonstration at multicultural food events

  • Provide clerical support to the faculty and other staff members.

  • Take messages, distribute mail and office supplies, and make photocopies.

  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Reports to: USDA Project Director, Academic Affairs

    Qualifications:

    Required: Must be a currently enrolled Santa Fe College student in good academic standing taking six (6) more credit hours. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA.

    Other Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

    Preferred: Email and Microsoft knowledge.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment.

    • Systems & Software - Proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
