Stetson University seeks a bold and energetic leader to support its learning goal of making internationalization core to the Stetson learning experience. The Assistant Director for International Learning Programs at WORLD: The David and Leighan Rinker Center for International Learning at Stetson University is a full-time professional position involving the development, planning, and implementation of programs at Stetson University in support of the University’s international learning goals. Under the direction of the Director of International Learning, the Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the advancement of global learning initiatives including faculty-led study abroad programs, international and study abroad student and alumni development, overseeing the university’s Peace Corps Prep program, and advising and leading the WORLD Student Ambassadors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Director for International Learning Programs will be a key member of the WORLD Center staff. In particular, the Assistant Director will:
- Plan, develop, and implement programs and events for WORLD: The David and Leighan Rinker Center for International Learning
- Work closely with faculty to develop short-term study abroad programs from planning to implementation to returning
- Lead and advise the WORLD Student Ambassador program
- Oversee and manage the University’s Peace Corps Prep program
- Develop and update materials and reports related to study abroad and international learning
- Support the WORLD Center director
- Assess programs and make improvements as needed
- Collaborate with staff at WORLD and the Office of International Programs at the College of Law
- Participate in campus-wide committees, division-wide meetings, initiatives, projects, programs, and tasks as appropriate.
- Supervise student workers providing services and support to WORLD and other international learning activities
- Create and implement faculty development opportunities for international learning
- Promote international learning through events such as classroom presentations, Global Citizenship Fairs, international student programming
- Manage study abroad logistical arrangements, including program budgets
- Develop and update program materials and website
- Maintain program databases and coordinate the generation of reports
- Facilitate course approval processes associated with Study Abroad
- Support advisement of current and prospective study abroad students in individual and group settings
- Lead and assist with major projects and events at the WORLD Center, such as International Education Week, World fair, and orientations
- Collaborate with colleagues in the WORLD center to develop center’s short and long-term goals and strategic initiatives
- Consistently collaborate and coordinate with staff of the Center for Community Engagement and Diversity and Inclusion, Residential Life, and Student Success to catalyze a campus culture that embraces social justice and through which students are empowered to be successful and significant as global citizens contributing to solving complex world problems
- Maintain communication with peers in the international learning field via listservs, conferences, etc.; stay current with trends and development in the field
- Engage in ongoing professional development
- Performs other site and position specific functions as assigned
Minimum Education: Master's degree
Required Skills
- Must be detail-oriented and have excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate (oral, written, and listening) effectively
- Successful track record in the use of personal computers for electronic communication, word processing, database management, and marketing
- Ability to participate in occasional evening and weekend activities
- Master’s degree in a field relating to international education, higher education, educational counseling, foreign language, or teaching ESOL
- Sensitivity to cultural diversity
- Must meet Department of Homeland Security requirements for Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)
- Previous international experience (study abroad, work abroad, and/or previous experience working with international populations)
- Equivalent of at least 2-3 years of progressively responsible student services work experience
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.
