Job Description Summary

Under limited supervision, this position provides direct service and support to prospective, current, and former Broward UP participants and community residents. This includes the coordination of Broward UP participants’ enrollment in noncredit, credit, workshop courses/programs, and community partner offerings. It facilitates engagement, retention, completion, and reenrollment in Broward UP programming or other noncredit courses, or community partner programs. For those Broward UP participants desiring to enter a credit program at the college, provide information regarding the college’s programs and services, admissions and registration, transcript evaluation, assessment of learning, and facilitating student engagement in academic and career planning activities. The position will also provide hand-off support for Broward UP completers to the college’s Employment Solutions department. Accordingly, the role serves as referral source, requiring the individual to work collaboratively with appropriate college functional units or staff to ensure ease of transfer.
The successful candidate must be passionate about social and economic aims of higher education, have a service- oriented attitude, excellent communicator, and a willingness to become cross-functionally trained in order to provide transformative, individualized advisement of Broward UP participants.
Travel to partner locations and campuses required. This role is intended to be embedded into community partner locations.
This is a grant funded temporary position which ends in 2023. The incumbent is subject to annual performance evaluations and grant contract renewal.     

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Counseling or Education preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Six years of relevant experience.
  • Creativity in providing additional alternatives in the delivery of information to students.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily - 20%: Responsible for supporting Broward UP participants from the point of admission through enrollment, completion, and referral to career placement or matriculation specialists. Such activities include engaging students in academic and career planning assessments, interpreting those assessments, assisting students in the development of a success plan that addresses their interests, skills, and abilities, and assisting students in clarifying their career, major, and career or academic goals. Additionally, this position is responsible for facilitating learning opportunities about admission and student services processes and procedures, student success skills and resources, student life opportunities, and job placement resources while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Daily - 15%: Responsible for collecting, reviewing and assessing applications, and related documents for compliance and eligibility for admission. Provides routine advice and guidance regarding the non-credit and credit application process and document requirements. Responds to email/telephone inquiries from students about advisement, registration, transfer information and other procedures or policies at BC. Continuously works to maintain individualized engagement with Broward UP participants to ensure completion of participant’s goals.
  • Daily - 10%: Supports Broward UP participants interested in credit programs, by ensuring that deadlines are met for completing FAFSA, Immigration, Florida Residency, and additional required documents.
  • Daily - 10%: Oversees Broward Up inbox to ensure inquiries and request are managed properly.
  • Weekly - 15%: Engages in follow up calls, personalized attention, and possible review of transcripts in view of potential recruitment into College credit programs. Reviews transcripts to ensure eligibility for admission to a specific college or program including unofficial evaluation of transfer credits and applicability of academic credit to program requirements. Monitors the receipt of all applicable official transcripts and collaborates with the transcript evaluators for the timely official evaluation of official transcripts. Supports Broward UP participants desire to transfer into credit programs with the transition/referral to appropriate for-credit advisement advisors, recruitment staff, and appropriate department.
  • Semester Basis - 10%: Schedules and monitors individualized advising appointments, at partner locations, as applicable. Conducts/facilitates group advising and registration sessions and success workshops for Broward UP participants at partner locations. Responsible for collecting, interpreting, maintaining, and distributing data regarding student completion trends, student needs, preferences, and performance for use in departmental and institutional decision making.
  • Weekly - 10%: Assists in the training of community partner College ambassadors and facilitates smooth transition between prospective students from community agencies’ case managers to the College’s Career Pathway Navigator. Serves as Broward UP student service and recruitment liaison during community engagement activities and various college events and work to develop process for seamless transfer to College’s student services unit.
  • Other - 5%: Engages in professional development experiences to improve practices. Serves on various committees, as needed.
  • Other - 5%: Performs other duties as assigned.
