Salary Range: ($6,010 - $8,297/per month) Salary commensurate with qualifications, experience, and licensure

Department of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), a unit within the Division of Student Affairs at California State University Long Beach, is a comprehensive center providing individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, campus outreach, program development, consultation, and an APA-accredited doctoral internship. A focus on diversity is thematic throughout all programs. The multidisciplinary center values a leadership structure that is respectful, cohesive and team oriented. We also serve on campus committees, provide university service, engage in scholarly activities, and service on committees within CAPS.

Required Qualifications:

• M.S. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or Social Work
• Licensed or license eligible as a mental health professional in psychology, social work, or marriage and family therapy in the State of California. [If licensed outside State of California, candidate needs to obtain California license within 6 months of hire.]
• Demonstrated ability to provide psychological services (clinical assessment, brief individual psychotherapy, group counseling, and crisis intervention) and the full range of mental health disorders to college students
• Strong generalist with demonstrated commitment and expertise working with a diverse student population
• Demonstrated ability to provide outreach and consultation to a multi-culturally diverse student population
• Experience providing telehealth services
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to the CAPS training program
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
• APA-accredited doctoral internship or an APPIC internship completed
• Demonstrated experience with intern training and supervision
• Ability to create an environment that promotes the academic success and well-being of students, with an awareness of intersecting identities and equity concerns.
• Ability to identify and advocate to student success
• Experience using social media platforms to promote mental health and engage the campus community
• Ability to serve as group supervisors for process groups
• Experience working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body

The successful candidate will bring a strong professional background and expertise to work in a university that is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution located in a city with a large Cambodian/Cambodian American population in an aspirational context for increasing local Black, Indigenous and People of Color enrollment.

Duties:

• Provides clinical assessment, brief individual psychotherapy, group counseling, crisis intervention, and outreach services to a diverse student population, as well as consultation to staff, faculty, and administration
• Provides intern clinical supervision and/or facilitation of training activities for the APA-accredited internship, under the general review of and with Director consultation
• Designs and implements psychoeducational programs and outreach activities for the whole campus community.
• Engages in appropriate university service through participation in campus committees and activities
