Description

GHC is looking for a talented, dedicated, equity-minded, full-time tenure-track faculty member to teach and lead the Building Trades Technology program located at Stafford Creek Correction Center (SCCC) campus of Grays Harbor College. Faculty in industrial technology programs are responsible for teaching industry standards and practices, establishing educational and professional pathways for students, collaborating to shape and develop the program, and promoting career and technical programs to local school districts, community organizations, and industry stakeholders. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about the latest standards and practices in building trades technology (drywall, roofing, and siding) and related industry and can revise the curriculum accordingly. Additional faculty responsibilities include instructional shop maintenance and development, equipment maintenance, supply management, academic student advising, outcomes assessment, committee work, community outreach, accreditation requirements, and other duties as assigned. The instructor will also be required to attend a 6-week Correctional CORE Worker Training, sponsored by the Department of Corrections. The position will begin in July 2022.

The Department of Corrections contracts with Grays Harbor College to provide educational services for offenders. This position is located at Stafford Creek Corrections Center (SCCC). Although safeguards are implemented to protect staff, this work will be performed in a corrections facility where the potential for violence exists. Applicants for this position must be able to pass an N.C.I.C. background check and be cleared to work in a prison. Continual access to the facility is a critical element of employment.

The placement on the salary schedule for 215 Day Contract will be determined by education and experience at the time of hire. The 215 Day Salary Schedule can be viewed at https://www.ghc.edu/hr/labor-relations. The benefits package includes a medical, dental, and vision plan, and employee/employer participation in an excellent retirement plan. Faculty positions at Grays Harbor College have been designated as bargaining unit positions represented by the Grays Harbor College Federation of Teachers, Local 4984. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach building trades technology and related courses maintaining a course load of no more than 20 credit hours per quarter.
  • Develop and revise building trades technology program curriculum and instructional materials to align with industry standards in related fields.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that affirms a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and demonstrates an understanding of historically disadvantaged populations and awareness of cultural relevance.
  • Develop, assign, and assess learning activities appropriate to the course and program learning outcomes. Provide students with course syllabi at the beginning of the quarter and distribute or post appropriate learning resources. Provide instructional feedback and assign grades in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and submit accurate academic records, including verification of class rosters, no-show reports, student grades, and student course evaluations by dates requested by the college; use course Canvas page utilizing Universal Design strategies.
  • Assess course, program, and institutional student learning outcomes to improve success in teaching and learning.
  • Incorporate elements of work ethics and professionalism.
  • Maintain, develop, and ensure program instructional shop meets all safety standards.
  • Oversee and ensure instructional and work activities meet all safety standards.
  • Maintain program equipment.
  • Order and inventory instructional supplies and instructional material.
  • Participate in student education and career development through advising, guided pathways activities, and high-impact practices like collaborative assignments and projects, internships, and capstone projects.
  • Use technology to enhance student learning and instructional effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the Carpentry Technology Program Advisory Committee to review and revise curriculum, student outcomes, and industry satisfaction with graduates. A minimum of two meetings per year is required.
  • Act as a liaison between the college, community organizations, and industry stakeholders to promote the college and Industrial Technology programs.
  • Participate in Industrial Technology Division and college meetings and activities and serve on college committees.
  • Stay current in the field through professional development, professional organizations, and professional meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Engage in shared governance by serving on college committees and participating in department, division, and college meetings.
  • Attend professional development to improve teaching and learning and remain current in the discipline
  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years full-time related industry work experience.
  • Recent industry certifications.
  • Knowledge and experience in current building trades technology for drywall, roofing, and siding; knowledge and skills must be in all phases of the occupation.
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain a state professional-technical certificate to teach in the technical area.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree in a relevant field or two years of related work experience.
  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching that supports the success of students and staff from historically disadvantaged populations, or similar experience in industry.
  • Demonstrated experience working to close equity gaps in education.
  • Familiarity with the latest standards in related industry including drywall, roofing, and siding.
  • Experience teaching at a community college using various teaching methods.
  • Experience with curriculum revision and development.
  • Experience working in the correctional setting.
