Position Summary:

The Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University seeks scholars who are committed to supporting the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds and to engaging communities underrepresented in higher education. Florida Atlantic University is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who interact in our community. In building this environment, we strive to attract students, faculty and staff from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and life experiences. Florida Atlantic University embodies a culture of strategic and collaborative community engagement that results in mutual benefit to the institution and the diverse internal and external communities that it serves.

The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an outstanding clinician at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to serve in its primary care clinical practice. The position will involve clinical work in the outpatient setting and includes academic opportunities for teaching residents and students in clinical settings, scholarship and research. Faculty with expertise in outpatient primary care trained in either Internal Medicine or Family Medicine may apply. Clinical work may include providing women’s health services. Additional training and proficiency in this area is preferred. Administrative leadership opportunities are available for qualified applicants who have had medical administrative leadership roles in the outpatient setting. The primary care practice is two years old and growing rapidly. Candidates must be ready to help grow and develop the practice through marketing and community engagement efforts.

The College operates a non-concierge primary care practice to meet the needs of the surrounding community. The practice is located adjacent to the FAU campus and one of our major teaching hospitals, and currently has a full-time physician and nurse practitioner and geriatric medicine consultations available. The newly established Marcus Institute for Integrative Health occupies space on the same floor, immediately adjacent to the primary care practice.

The successful candidate will be eligible to receive top-tier faculty benefits including health and retirement plans.

The mission of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine as a community-based medical school is to advance the health and well-being of our community by training future generations of humanistic clinicians and scientists and translating discovery to patient-centered care. We are committed to providing educational programs, in partnership with our hospital affiliates, that enable our medical students and residents to become active, self-directed, life-long learners; equip our graduates to effectively treat the patients that they are most likely to encounter in their practices; demonstrate a commitment to inclusiveness and diversity; produce graduates with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and self-awareness required to practice effective, humanistic, patient-centered, evidence-based medicine in an increasingly diverse healthcare environment; emphasize the centrality of collaborative relationships in the provision of the highest quality comprehensive health care; and foster and value collaboration among medical specialties, and between academic medicine and community health care professionals.

Minimum Qualifications:

M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of assistant professor or higher.

A Florida medical license or eligibility for Florida licensure required. Board certification from an accredited board of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is required by time of hire.

An interest in providing outpatient primary care in an academic setting and considerable experience in providing care for patients in Managed Medicare plans is preferred.

Experience with the organization of outpatient practices is preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively with different members of the healthcare system as well as a variety of learners from diverse backgrounds is required.

In addition to clinical experience, candidates who have experience and expertise in outpatient clinic medical leadership and administration, clinical education, clinical trials, quality improvement, and/or evidence-based medicine training curricula will be most competitive.

Evidence of scholarly productivity is desirable.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
