The Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a PGY-4 Chief Medical Resident to join its Internal Medicine Residency Program for the 2022-23 academic year.
This University-based program is sponsored by Florida Atlantic University in collaboration with our Graduate Medical Education Consortium. The Internal Medicine Residency utilizes three Consortium hospitals (Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Bethesda Hospital East, and Delray Medical Center) to provide a strong clinical experience and a broad diversity of patients. Residents are provided with a comprehensive and balanced curriculum that prepares them for careers in general internal medicine or medical subspecialties. Additionally, they have access to the College of Medicine’s Simulation Center.
The mission of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine is to educate physicians and scientists to meet the healthcare needs of Florida, to conduct biomedical research to advance knowledge which improves patient care, and to serve patients and communities with competence, compassion, and respect. The mission of the Internal Medicine Residency is to provide trainees with the education and experiences that will help develop the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to be a well-rounded, thoughtful, and empathetic physician who is board-certified in internal medicine and embraces life-long learning.
The PGY-4 Chief Medical Resident, Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor of Medicine, will assist the Program Director of Internal Medicine Residency and have a flexible role which will include direct teaching, scheduling of academic half day, management of schedules and jeopardy systems, supervision and evaluation of residents, advising and mentoring residents, and leadership.
Responsibilities include:
- Serving as teaching faculty in continuity clinic (3 half days per week) and on inpatient ward services (12 weeks in the year).
- Working with the PGY-3 chief residents to handle administrative tasks including jeopardy coverage schedules, night medicine schedules, and resident concerns/complaints.
- Promoting a learning environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME competencies.
- Evaluating and reporting to the PD the supervising interactions and/or learning environment that does not meet the program’s standards.
- Mentoring and guiding residents in quality improvement and research projects.
Anticipated graduation from an accredited internal medicine residency program in June 2022.
Anticipated eligibility to sit for the ABIM or AOBIM exam, Florida medical licensure, and appropriate medical staff appointment.
Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
