Job Description

*This position will be open until filled. For full consideration, all application-related materials should be submitted by 5/1/22. The application review will begin on May 1, 2022.

The Department of Mathematics seeks applicants for full-time, tenure-track positions to teach college-level Mathematics and applied statistics courses. Department is looking for individuals interested in teaching math courses from a typical pathway co-requisite to calculus courses. The math department offers these courses online, remote, and in-person mode. In addition, the department is looking for individuals interested in developing new degrees in the field of applied statistics and data analytics and courses related to those degrees.

Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop new courses to meet community business workforce needs. These needs could be for a new program in applied statistics and other emerging math/stats degrees (such as Data Science/Data analysts).
  • Teach transferable, college-level math and applied statistics courses.
  • Teach co-requisite courses offered as pathway courses at the college for liberal arts majors, business majors, and STEM major students, respectively.
  • Maintain records, submit grades, and communicate with department and college personnel using established college/department protocol and the college's learning management system.
  • Develop Syllabi and course materials; evaluate student mastery of skills and competencies required by course outcomes; provide an excellent learning environment; provide student advisement; participate in recruitment activities and program/curriculum development.
  • Participate in program/division meetings and activities and serve on department and college-wide committees.
  • Assignments may be multi-campus with the possibility of day, evening, and/or weekend classes.
  • Be able to develop own course materials for subject matter delivery in an Online or Remote environment using current technology.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear and timely feedback to students.


Additional Responsibilities
  • Support the mission of the college and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE).
  • Support the expansion of Math/Stats courses, programs, and mission of the college and NSHE system.
  • Working with faculty and staff of other institutions of higher learning in the area.
  • Building accountability and benchmarks for institutional assessment and evaluation.
  • Ability to develop Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and the tools to measure their success.
  • Prepare and teach mathematics and statistics courses to a diverse and multicultural student population based on established Student Learning Outcomes (SLO).
  • Apply a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the student population's needs and standards of the discipline.
  • Participate in college and departmental responsibilities, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, committees, councils, workgroups, community service activities, task forces, and professional development.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
  • Support the institution, school, and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, and/or Associate Vice President, and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

  • Experience using technology not just as an instructional aide but being able to use them to develop course material for remote learning/teaching and purely online teaching and learning modes.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to maintain an established schedule, including evenings and weekends, and multiple campus teaching assignments that may vary by semester.
  • Understanding the role of college faculty in promoting equity, equality, and inclusion.
  • Understanding the responsibilities of colleges in meeting the community's needs in developing an able workforce.


Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Mathematical or applied statistics, Data Analytics or other similarly related field from a regionally accredited college or university. All other degree holders must have 18-or more graduate level credits in statistics core courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology to teach math courses in an Online and/or remote environment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Applied statistics, Mathematics or related filed.
  • Demonstrated evidence of outstanding ability as a teacher commensurate with experience.
  • Have experience of alternate course offerings, such as Co-Requisite/ Stretch Models.
  • Having a passion for teaching Mathematics.
  • An understanding of current issues and trends in college mathematics education, including, but not limited to, the use of alternative instructional methods and technology.
  • Ability to collaborate with other faculty in redesigning courses and/or teaching new courses
  • Experience working with a diverse student body and workforce.
  • An understanding of the College environment, its students, and its mission.
  • Evidence of professional development and service, proportional to experience.


Starting Salary Range

Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement.

Interview Process

Each selected candidate will be making a presentation as part of the interview. They will be given access and support contacts to the LMS used by the college. They can use the LMS to supplement their teaching abilities using technology. The topic of the presentation will be provided by the search committee after the initial screening.

National Search

Out of Area/State Candidates may be offered travel reimbursement with original itemized receipts and in accordance with GSA rates at the time of travel.

Bargaining unit faculty members hired are eligible for relocation expenses reimbursement in accordance with the College of Southern Nevada and Nevada Faculty Alliance (NFA) Contract 2020-22.
