The Procurement Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Contract Specialist - Sourcing to work at the Coral Gables Campus.

The Senior Contract Specialist - Sourcing aids in the preparation and negotiation of contracts to ensure compliance with contract terms, conditions, and expectations. He/she provides direction and work review to assigned department staff, serves as consultant to management, and performs the more complex work associated with procurement and contracting services for the University.

Researches, reviews, and remains abreast of developments in assigned categories. Minimizes risk by negotiating terms that are the most beneficial to the University of Miami (“University”) and to ensure a common set of requirements are being adhered to. Serves as the liaison between University customers and contract vendors to maintain supplier relationships to fulfill current and future contract needs. Actively supports the department’s Supplier Diversity initiatives by identifying opportunities on any assigned contracts and bid opportunities to work towards increasing the participation of diverse suppliers at the University. Advises on the creation of policies, procedures, and clauses to achieve procurements efficiently and effectively. Supports modifications to contracts and conducts analysis of alternatives to, and capabilities and characteristics, of the assigned contractors. Utilizes price and cost analysis techniques to support the development of cost-related sections of solicitation documents. Applies strategic and logical thinking to business situations. Acts as department expert on procurement and contracting issues. Works with the legal department as needed to draft complex contracts and agreements. Prepares bids and specifications to ensure maximum competition. Drafts and presents executive summaries as needed. Ensures contracts are properly executed and archived in the contract management system. Works closely with University departments to identify cost reduction opportunities to achieve savings targets. Perform other duties as assigned.

Department Specific Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required

Certification and Licensing:

  • Certified Public Purchasing Buyer (CPPB) and/or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) Certification preferred


  • Three years related experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Strong negotiation skills.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and work in a team environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience in managing multiple and diverse stakeholder groups.
