Financial Associate 2 (Full-time, Non-exempt, Market Range 5)

The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Financial Associate 2. This position works closely with the Humanities Business Manager and for the department heads of Classics, Philosophy, and Religious Studies as well as the Director of the Tennessee Humanities Center to manage the financial and human resource operations of those units.

Responsibilities

    Responsible for Accounts Payable (process accounting transactions in IRIS for invoices, contracts, purchase orders, deposits, honorarium/consultant payments, petty cash reimbursements, and internal transfer vouchers. Ensure documents are in compliance of fiscal policies and procedures. Place orders on the procurement card, verify and distribute procurement card charges/credits to designated financial accounts. Perform complex posting of procurement card receipts for minor equipment. Create vendor requests. Process travel requests and reimbursements)     Responsible for initiating and following-up on correspondence regarding financial issuesAssist the Humanities Business Manager with preparation of accounting and financial reports for multiple accounts Assist the Humanities Business Manager with annual preparation of the departmental budgetsManage Human Resources Activities (work with constituent department heads to ensure positions are managed in a manner consistent with the departmental budgets and to ensure timely and correct payments of employees. Process human resource appointments/changes) Record and enter biweekly and monthly timesheets of departmental staff and staff of the Tennessee Humanities Center   Review new or renewal H1-B and J-1 requests for employees and visitors. Analyze departmental payroll data for preparation of Wage Calculations for H1-B applicationsResponsible for travel
Qualifications

Required: High School Degree plus three years of accounting experience in higher education. Conceptual knowledge/understanding of basic accounting principles. Demonstrated knowledge of a complex accounting system such as SAP. Demonstrated ability to synthesize, summarize and communicate complex information. Demonstrated creative problem-solving ability. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students. Effective communication skills (written and verbal). Demonstrated command of spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software.  Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work under pressure with time-sensitive deadlines.  Ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or five years of accounting experience in higher education in an academic department.
