Overview

Macalester College seeks to hire a full-time Residential Services Manager. The Residential Services Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating various housing services for up to 1300 residential students. This includes housing and dining applications, room assignments, room draw/selection and associated business processes such as billing and meal plan set up. This position is also responsible for the coordination of seasonal processes, including opening, closing, pre-semester, J-term, breaks and summer transitions. Finally, the position will work closely with colleagues within the division and across campus to support a successful student experience. Frequent and high quality interaction with internal and external customers/partners is an essential component of the position. 

 

The Residential Services Manager is a vital member of the Residential Life central staff team reports directly to the Executive Director of Residential Life. This position has flexibility for working arrangements, however, should be able to meet centrally with the Residential Life team on campus as needed.

About Residential Life at Macalester: Residential Life at Macalester serves approximately 1300 students in campus housing. Living options include traditional and suite style residence halls, theme houses, language houses, and apartments located above a Grand Avenue restaurant.

All first-year and sophomore students are required to live on-campus.  About one fourth of the junior class and one fifth of the senior class also live on campus.Mission

Residential Life at Macalester College utilizes a student-focused, learning-centered approach to foster resident development, authentic relationships, and inclusive living-communities. We do this through our implementation of the Community Learning Model, community standards, and housing services.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the management of the housing software system and its associated functions. This position directly manages critical housing processes, including housing and dining applications, room assignments and changes, room draw/selection, and associated business processes related to residential services. Design and coordinate seasonal processes in partnership with key stakeholders (i.e. Athletics, Academic Programs), including opening, closing, seasonal housing (Pre-semester, J-term, Senior Week, Summer), and the damage charge and appeal process. 
  • Serves as the first point of contact for Residential Life central office, including providing excellent support and customer service to students and their families/guardians as well as the great Macalester community. Researches and responds to complex inquiries from customers (students, parents/guardians, campus partners) to provide information and guidance regarding housing services, options, programs, policies, procedures, or referrals.
  • Collaborates with various campus departments regarding critical business and technological services, including residential billing, card access, and MacPass/meal plan set up. Serve as the liaison to ITS to maintain technological resources, processes, and services for the department. Utilize technological resources including but not limited to Google Suite, Banner, Odyssey, Beacon and Maxient. 
  • Works closely with Disability Services regarding housing accommodation requests and implementation. This position also works closely with living and learning partners, including the language and specialty housing partners to support the educational initiatives. 
  • Liaison with Facilities Services regarding preventive maintenance, daily operations and seasonal transitions. 
  • Assists with staff development and training. Maintains departmental website and design marketing information to publicize residential resources and services. 
  • Engages in and promotes Macalester’s culture of diversity and inclusion, encompassing individuals of any heritage, identity, status or orientation.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required with 2+ experience that demonstrates knowledge and competencies for this position, including: 
  • A strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with an understanding of how to advance a culture that is welcoming and inclusive.
  • Familiarity with housing & residential life operations. Experience with housing software systems, and technological resources such as Google Suite, Banner, Odyssey and any other third party softwares that manage meal plan set up.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain supportive and high quality relationships with students, families, staff, faculty and colleagues. Experience working with students and their families in navigating resources and pathways. 
  • A demonstrated ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity.

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

This is a full time, exempt position with an annual salary of $51,000 and Macalester’s Benefits.
