Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director of Counseling Services will serve as a team member within Counseling Services to provide comprehensive prevention, intervention and modeling to encourage students to take responsibility for their mental, emotional, social, spiritual, physical, and occupational development to become contributing members in their community. Primarily, this will be accomplished through direct therapy, programming, consultation, and crisis intervention within the Saint Leo University community.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

• Assist the Director with overall management, planning, and delivery of mental health services to the Saint Leo University community

• Maintain caseload of clients, including direct individual and/or group therapy

• Share an on call duty rotation for crisis intervention that may require physically responding to campus

• Provide outreach/programming, often during evenings and/or weekends, regarding a variety of appropriate college age student issues.

• Participate in community partnerships or task forces as assigned.

• Maintain current licensure requirements and adhere to all professional association ethics and state licensure guidelines.

• Support and adhere to Saint Leo University Core Values and policies.

• Collaborate with other University departments and external mental health agencies and providers to deliver prevention and intervention services to students.

• Market services to students and the Saint Leo University community through a variety of means including class presentations, orientation, and representation at campus events.

• Assist Director with documentation and reporting as needed. Maintain required professional development requirements.

• Support the attainment of departmental goals stated on the Execution Priorities.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling or the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

• Master’s Degree in Counseling or related field from a regionally accredited institution,

• Currently licensed or licensed eligible for LMHC in the State of Florida.

• Licensed mental health provider in the State of Florida.

• Minimum of three years’ experience providing counseling, preferably with college age students

• Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

• Experience in outreach/programming, particularly in the areas of alcohol and other drugs, domestic violence, and/or sexual assault.

• Experience in the diagnosis and treatment of common mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationship issues, career exploration, and others.

• Experience with risk assessment, particularly surrounding self-harm, including implementation of involuntary hospitalizations.
