Job Description

The goal of the residential portion of the Smith Precollege Program is to help participants become acclimated to life in a college campus environment at the high school level, experience high quality programming and build strong relationships with peers.

Primary Function

Create a house community based in safety and inclusiveness. Provide enriching social and cultural opportunities. Live in the residence halls with the Smith Precollege Program participants and staff. Supervise high school precollege students in the residential portion of the program. Maintain high standards of health and safety, including COVID-19 safety protocol on and off campus and follow the Board of Health regulations for youth camps. Coordinate, and carry out activities and guide residential staff in their duties to lead activities.

Essential Job Functions

50% House Management and Staff Management: Organize residential staff and lead house meetings and briefings. Ensure communication channels remain open between the classroom and residential settings. Assist in assigning duties and activities to staff. Provide ongoing feedback and direction to all staff. Be a role model to staff and participants in your attitude and behavior. Help manage the supply inventory, purchasing, and house budget for the summer.

50 % Student Activities and Student Supervision: Responsible for development, implementation and supervision of all residential activities. Vet all house activities to ensure their appropriateness for Smith’s precollege programs. Provide intervention between house residents when necessary and mediate conflicts within your house and across houses. Occasionally speak with parents and guardians of participants. Other duties, as assigned.

Details

This is a full-time, seasonal, six-week position, running June 25 – August 6, 2022. Thirty-five to forty hours per week, includes room and board. Most hours are in the evenings. Weekends required. Living on campus through the duration of employment is required. Participation in all on-campus COVID-19 health and safety protocol is required. COVID-19 vaccination and booster are required. Housing is in a residence hall with shared entry. Work on the 4th of July is required. Position is not eligible for holiday pay.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Experience in Residential Life on a college campus preferred. Experience working with high schools students preferred. Knowledge of planning and implementing activities for groups or summer camp experience required. First Aid and CPR certification required.
